JOB SUMMARY: This is a Direct Hire Public Notice. Please read this Public Notice in its entirety prior to submitting your application for consideration. This position is located within the Department of Commerce (DOC), National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), Office of Oceanic and Atmospheric Research (OAR), Geophysical Fluid Dynamics Laboratory (GFDL) with two vacancies located in Plainsboro, NJ. MAJOR DUTIES: As a Research Physical Scientist, you will perform the following duties: - Lead projects and conduct basic and applied research on the environments, multi-scale physical processes and dynamics of weather systems, especially of high-impact events like hurricanes, severe weather outbreaks, intense winter storms, and hydroclimate extremes. Investigate and assess technical problems and provide recommendations on procedures and methods for problem solving. Provide an authoritative source of technical guidance to other functional specialists. - Serve as expert researcher preparing, coordinating and directing the implementation of research in weather and climate models. Define technical problems requiring study and plan and develop advanced technical studies and evaluations. - Serve as an expert advisor and lead the writing of research proposals that attain funding for field and other research projects to collect and analyze observations. - Lead collaborations with scientists at other National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) labs, centers for operational implementation, and universities. Lead the publication of scientific results in peer-reviewed journals and present results at seminars, conferences, and workshops.
