The special care nursery in Coon Rapids is a 16-bed, 12-room unit and is part of the Mother Baby Center at Mercy with Children's Minnesota. The special care nursery team cares for babies who are 32 weeks and older and require a higher level of care than the newborn nursery provides, as well as full-term babies who may be sick, have an anomaly or are transitioning from the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) to home.
