On energy, SOCOTEC personnel worked on many firsts – the first net-zero US building, the first US environmental high rise residences, the first US environmental office tower, and continued with many others, including currently some of the most efficient all-electric/low carbon buildings. Our project types are broad, including offices, multi-family residential (mid & high-rise), assembly, natatoriums, and art galleries and project sizes typically range from 100k to 2 million square feet.

Other general responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Perform advanced energy modeling analysis for high rise commercial and residential buildings primarily using the DOE 2.2 or Energy Plus in accordance with ASHRAE Standards;
  • Model building HVAC systems including chilled water, hot water, DX, rooftop units, evaporative cooling, as well as constant air and variable air volume systems;
  • Assemble documentation on modeling methods, assumptions and results;
  • Execute energy auditing, benchmarking, data gathering, as well as measurement & verification;
  • Perform energy savings and lifecycle cost analyses of energy saving measures related to building envelope, lighting, HVAC, plug loads, and building energy management systems;
  • Perform excel based calculations utilizing engineering principles;
  • Develop and write reports that detail building components as well as describe energy efficiency measures to improve design and control for new and existing facilities;
  • Perform quality checks and quality assurance for tasks performed by team members; and
  • Provide feedback to project teams on cost effective ways of improving building energy performance and sustainability.
