What you will do
Lets do this. Lets change the world In this vital leadership role the Director, Payer Contracting, is a key member of the US Value and Access (US V&A) Contract Development team. The core focus will be leading a contracting team that manages a large pharmacy benefit manager (PBM) / rebate management organization (RMO) account as well as other key strategic accounts with responsibilities spanning the full Amgen US portfolio of medicines (pharmacy benefit, medical benefit, and biosimilars) across all books of business (commercial and government). This role will partner with a broad set of internal stakeholders to build out contract strategy, support deal negotiations, and advise on contract interpretations to support implementation, contract performance analyses, formulary/UM validation efforts, and dispute resolution activities when needed.
This position can be based remotely in the US. Core meetings will occur during Pacific Time hours. Travel to Amgens headquarters in Thousand Oaks may be expected approximately 4-6 times throughout the calendar year.
Lead and inspire team of 3 direct reports and a total team of 5 contracting professionals.
Key role as Payer Contracting lead for a major pharmacy benefit manager/rebate management organization across all books of business. Also lead contracting efforts for additional key strategic accounts.
Lead matrix team in leveraging contracting opportunities to support Amgens strategic business needs across full portfolio, including writing and preparation of agreements, amendments, waivers, and notifications. Manage all necessary approvals and ensure alignment across functions to deliver fully implemented contracts that align to business goals.
Work cross-functionally with US V&A teams (market access, coverage and pricing strategy, contracts and pricing operations, and law teams) to provide strategic guidance on contracting options in order to devise contracting solutions that optimize the gross-to-net impact of strategies.
Anticipate, evaluate, and respond to contracting questions from Amgens internal stakeholders.
Support field-based account management team on all requests for bids, quotes, and negotiations with customers as required.
Support evolution of technology platforms and coach/train team members to adopt new ways of working accordingly.
Remain abreast of underlying payer performance metrics and trends to uncover any underlying opportunities and weaknesses in the business.
Conduct appropriate analyses and develop contracting recommendations that influence decision-making of senior leadership at the Executive Director, VP GM, and SVP levels.
Support organizational initiatives to validate formulary and utilization management (UM) criteria based on provisions stipulated in contracts. Respond to requests as appropriate from corporate audit or other internal partners to interpret key contract provisions.
Collaborate across US V&A verticals to support transformative/modernization efforts on platforms/systems, workflows, and governance processes as appropriate.Win

Doctorate degree and 4 years of sales & marketing operations or pricing experienceOr
Masters degree and 8 years of sales & marketing operations or pricing experienceOr
Bachelors degree and 10 years of sales & marketing operations or pricing experience
In addition to meeting at least one of the above requirements, you must have at least 4 years experience directly managing people and/or leadership experience leading teams, projects, programs, or directing the allocation or resources. Your managerial experience may run concurrently with the required technical experience referenced abovePreferred Qualifications:
6+ years of experience solving complex business problems and managing analytics projects.
Experience in pharmaceutical/biotech environment.
Demonstrated track record of increasing responsibility and leadership experience.
Demonstrated ability building and leading successful teams that excel at collaborating cross-functionally.
Exceptional analytical capabilities. Excellent conceptual problem-solving skills with demonstrated ability to bring structure to vaguely defined problems, pragmatically scope problem solving approach, and manage execution.
Ability and desire to build new organizational capabilities from the ground up.
Possess a willingness and ability to work hands-on and with a sense of urgency, in a fast-paced, environment.
Ability to execute and communicate effectively in a highly fluid, interactive, matrixed environment; demonstrated ability to successfully manage multiple simultaneous, complex projects to completion.
Authoritative command of complexity and ambiguity; ability to see the big picture; ability to collect, digest and assemble information to enable relevant business analyses.
Deep experience navigating the evolving U.S. healthcare system.
Good judgment and initiative in handling business issues of significance to Corporate Pricing.
Excellent project management skills and capacity to manage/lead multiple projects.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
