Job Description
Instructor in Mechanical and Materials Engineering
The School of Engineering at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) invites applications for an Instructor in the Mechanical and Materials Engineering Department. The Instructor will be expected to teach required and elective courses in the Mechanical Engineering undergraduate program. Applicants must hold a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, or a related area. Preference will be given to applicants with prior college-level teaching experience as well as design, development and prototyping experience. The ideal candidate would also be able to interface with one or more research groups in the UAB School of Engineering. The Instructor will hold a non-tenure-earning, nine-month appointment; summer teaching assignments and pay may also be available depending on courses taught.

The UAB School of Engineering is dedicated to research excellence and providing the highest quality education to a diverse population of future engineers. The School has approximately 50 full-time faculty members and enrolls nearly 900 undergraduates across 6 undergraduate majors in four departments: Biomedical Engineering; Civil, Construction and Environmental Engineering; Electrical and Computer Engineering, and Mechanical and Materials Engineering. Our undergraduate programs emphasize practical, hands-on learning complemented by a guaranteed internship. Over 500 graduate students pursue a range of programs including traditional on-campus M.S./Ph.D. pathways as well as online M.Eng. degrees for working professionals. The school has close ties to companies in Birmingham, which serves as a regional hub for the construction, materials, power, and biotech industries.

Required Qualifications
Applicants must hold a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, or a related area. The applicant will be expected to teach required and elective courses in the Mechanical Engineering undergraduate program.
