The Opportunity

This position: Principal Software Embedded Engineer, works out of our San Diego, CA on site in our office location in our ID ARDx Division.

Data-Driven Solutions: Leverage your analytical prowess to conduct thorough data analytics. Communicate technical topics effectively across all levels.


The person hired in this role applies an interdisciplinary, collaborative approach to plan, design, develop and verify system software. Has extensive knowledge in programming languages such as C, C++ / C# or Python.  Creates, modifies & designs for complex problems and is able to execute all stages of the software development lifecycle.

What Youâll Work On

If hired, you will have a complete understanding of the software development process, participate in the development of the software process, can identify shortcomings in the process and recommend modifications to address process issues.

In addition:

  • Provide technical guidance to less experienced engineers and serves as technical expert which can include ensuring that they understand their areas of responsibility.

  • Serve as a mentor for less experienced engineers.

  • Communicate with outside decision makers in a manner appropriate to the goals of the communication and has effective presentation skills.

  • Are able to convey the implications of changes to internal and external stakeholders who have differing levels of understanding of the process.

  • Integrate subsystems and components in total systems designs; develops specifications from customer requirements.

  • Proactively takes on responsibility.

  • Implements leading technologies in a technical field. Incorporates advancements in technology on current project.

  • Develops High Level Design for entire software application, which includes ability to assign capabilities to components, negotiate interactions between components, and identify and resolve component interaction issues. Conducts reviews at the feature-level.

  • Assesses areas impacted by new feature requests and determines approach to accommodate new capabilities.

Basic Qualifications:

  • At least 8 years of relevant experience in software engineering or a Masterâs degree in a related field and 6 years of relevant experience.

Other qualifications/certifications:

  • Expert experience in designing and developing complex software systems.

  • Demonstrated ability in providing guidance to junior team members.

  • Expert knowledge in modern programming languages such as C/C++/C# or Python & agile methodologies

  • Expert level of understanding of test-driven methodologies

  • Expert level of knowledge with continuous integration & continuous development (CI/CD) demonstrated success in technical proficiency, creativity, and independent thought.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills    

  • Ability to develop & design at the feature-level

  • Expert level understanding of design patterns

  • Strong analytical & problem-solving skills

  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize responsibilities

  • Evolves the architecture to support future requirements and defines its service level agreements (SLAs)

  • Experience ensuring and leading the technical excellence of the system and creates plans to mitigate outages.

Preferred Qualifications

  • At least 10 years of relevant work experience with a bachelorâs degree in a related field or 8 years of relevant experience with a masterâs degree in a related field.

  • Expert level ability to conduct thorough data analytics & implement data-driven solutions.

  • Demonstrated ability to efficiently communicate technical topics to all levels within their team.

  • At least 3 years in the follow areas: Expertise programming in C, C++., Boot loader and OTA, Communication protocols I2C, RS232, RS-485., Board bring-up experience, Device driver development, Design and implement software for embedded systems, including device drivers, middleware, and application software., Collaborate with hardware engineers to define system requirements, architecture, and interfaces, Debug and troubleshoot software issues on embedded platforms using debugging tools and techniques.

The base pay for this position is $109,300.00 â $218,500.00. In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
