Performance Therapist

Summary

The Performance Therapist is a dual-credentialed provider (any two of: physical therapist/athletic trainer/chiropractor/strength and conditioning coach).  This role requires a performance therapy mindset, integrating diverse soft tissue and manual therapy skills, and utilizing sports science tools to guide rehabilitation and return to play decision-making.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Injury Management:

    • Collaborate with Athletic Training, Performance Science, Strength and Conditioning Staffs along with other professionals to ensure players' healthy return to play.
    • Collect, analyze and interpret sport science data as part of the Browns athlete management and return to performance programs.
    • Use objective measurements to guide exercise and drill selection for prevention and return to performance programming.

Player and Organizational Communication:

    • Maintain a respectful relationship with players while ensuring their safe return to play.
    • Report any information affecting the club’s ability to compete to the Senior Vice President, Player Health & Development.

Manual Therapy and Soft Tissue Skills:

    • Apply diverse soft tissue and manual therapy techniques to enhance player recovery and performance both in the athletic training room and sports performance facility.

Training Room Management:

    • Create and enforce training room rules and guidelines.
    • Maintain and monitor the training room for neatness and professionalism.

Education and Professional Development:

    • Stay current with the latest training techniques and attend necessary industry-wide meetings, seminars, and workshops.
    • Maintain Continuing Education Units (CEUs) as required.

Community and Professional Representation:

    • Represent the Club professionally both at work and within the community.

Measurements of Success

 Department Efficiency:

    • Effectiveness and efficiency of the department in managing player health and performance.

Adversity Management:

    • Quick and successful handling of adversity.

Leadership and Communication:

    • Display leadership within the position and the department.
    • Ensure open and constant communication within the department.
    • Foster a cohesive and well-managed department unit.

Minimum Requirements

  • Doctorate in Physical Therapy or Doctor of Chiropractic or MS Athletic Training with ability to attain Ohio license to practice within 30 days of employment.
  • Additional Credential as Strength and Conditioning Coach (NSCA CSCS) or Sport Scientist (MS or PhD in Sport Science Related field)
  • Experience working in a high-performance setting (professional sport, international sport, NCAA or elite military).
