Job Description

Quality Assurance Technician - Second Shift - Madison, WI

 

NATURE OF WORK :
 
To support the Madison Operation’s Quality and Food Safety Assurance Systems, including daily Quality Assurance support of ISO FSSC 22000, NSF, and other systems and certifications in place or planned at the facilities. 
 

This position would be a member of the Plant Operations Quality Assurance and Food Safety Team. 
 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 
 
The essential functions of this position include, but are not limited to, the following: 
 

  • Comply with all Company policies including, but not limited to, policies, procedures, and guidelines regarding Safe working practices and a drug free work place, as well as the Company’s Quality and Environmental Policies and procedures. 
  • Maintain the quality and food safety documentation systems. 
  • Prepare and assemble production batch records for QA approval. 
  • Review and approve completed documentation including, but not limited to: production manufacturing records, sanitation records, log books, forms, etc. 
  • Ensure HACCP food safety Critical Control Point (CCP) review of manufacturing records. 
  • Contribute to the environmental sampling of the facility following established QA protocols. Including performing laboratory testing and analysis when applicable.
  • Performs production room pre-operational inspections and sanitation verification 
  • Support and perform the internal audits for GMP's and quality/food safety management systems. 
  • Support customer, third party certification, and regulatory audits by providing the appropriate documentation and information on the quality/food safety management system.
  • Communicate information about food safety programs and changes and educate plant staff and production work center operators about those changes. 
  • Participate in the Food Safety Team. 
  • Assist Quality Assurance Team members by being responsive to any problems relative to Quality Assurance functions and quickly and efficiently alleviate difficulties as necessary. 
  • Participate in team meetings to help outline work schedules and priorities. 
  • Perform risk assessment and management of quality events that have occurred to mitigate damage and ensure all impacted product remains in the Company’s control. 
  • Perform investigations into quality events and complaints to determine the root cause and create plans of action to mitigate reoccurrence of event.
  • Understand and follow Good Manufacturing Practices for the care, handling, and storage of food products; and report any known or observed violations to management.  Utilize HACCP philosophy and procedures in everyday work routine. 

      

Job Requirements

 
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES 

 

  • Should have at least 2 years related work experience and/or possess a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Chemistry, Microbiology, or Biology. 
  • Must have the ability to work as an active team member, as well as independently. 
  • Must have strong math, logic, and communication skills (both verbal and written). 
  • Should have experience in a manufacturing facility with knowledge of Quality Assurance, experience with Quality Management Systems and working knowledge of HACCP food safety programs. 

 

WORKING CONDITIONS 
 
This position operates in an office/production plant environment. 
 
Exposure to hazardous materials training may be required. 
 

 

SCOPE OF POSITION 
 
This position reports directly to the Product Safety Site Leader and has no direct supervisory responsibility. 
 
This position has direct contact with Production Management, Logistics, QC, QA, Production, and Maintenance.
