In this newly created leadership role, you will help make Optum Health's consumer obsessed digital vision come to life and lead the organization through the creation and transformation of digital experiences serving patients, health plan members, employers, and providers. This leader will design and deliver the common component technology platform as well as our next generation patient experience serving more than 15+ million (and growing) patients in the US. This leader will be responsible for the platform and application Engineering strategy, lead an integrated team focused on driving continuous, metrics-backed improvements to the digital experience through product and engineering disciplines.

The Senior Direct, Digital Engineering - Optum Health Consumer will report to the Vice President of Digital Engineering - Optum Health Consumer and have end-to-end accountability for leading the digital capabilities and engineering for consumer digital experiences for patients in Optum Care. This role will partner across Optum and external partners to oversee (and be accountable for) end-to-end digital experiences.

Candidates for this role will need to be seasoned engineering leaders with deep expertise in cross team digital product delivery, have proven experience designing and executing on cross brand and/or line of business mobile and web properties, deep understanding of direct-to-consumer digital products and ecosystems, and how to optimize cost and reuse for multiple brands.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Lead a high-performing, multi-disciplinary global engineering team of 50+ engineers across web, mobile and portal solutions
  • Define the digital technology strategy for the common component and Patient facing digital experiences, driving substantial reuse of code, designs, and architecture across UHG
  • Formulate and lead both near-term and long-term digital product development strategies and ongoing deliveries through agile practices and modern cloud based engineering tools and techniques
  • Co-develop a high performing product model across all disciplines and partner with internal and external business stakeholders to enable seamless omni-channel experiences for those we serve
  • Work across other line of business engineering teams to share and reuse tech components and user experiences to drive a one-Optum/UHC approach
  • Drive meaningful integration of online and mobile experiences through personalization, product and service orientation that influence the flow of healthcare
  • Create a Customer/Consumer focused technology culture that lives and breathes customer success through data driven, real-time site telemetry, and consumer insights to continuously improve the performance and reliability of the sites
  • Reimagine experiences through technology by leveraging mobile first principles enabled through highly personalized Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning methods at sub second response times
  • Drive thought leadership and stay current on technology trends
  • Responsible for team financial delivery, ensuring on budget delivery with cost-effective global resourcing approaches

Required Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of progressive product engineering leadership experience including driving digital product delivery and successfully leading engineering through a product model culture across multiple brands or lines of business
  • 8+ years of experience leading direct to consumer digital engineering teams delivering direct to consumer solutions (Digital, eCommerce and mobile)
  • 3+ years of experience with effectively leading/managing global (on shore/off shore) engineering organizations of 25 - 50 team members (managers, individual contributors & strategic vendor partners)
  • 3+ years of experience leading/utilizing modern software engineering technologies and practices including public cloud (AWS, Azure & GCP), micro-services, CI/CD, DevSecOps, and mobile applications (React Native)
  • Ability to drive and deliver new consumer facing digital assets for a leading consumer brand impacting at least 100k users and go to market digital channels including web and mobile

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated history of applying product and engineering practices to drive business value
  • Experience building digital solutions in the Retail industry

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group complies with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
