Tool and Die Engineering Specialist wanted in Birmingham, Alabama to maintain dies and other tooling to produce quality parts to improve processes and increase productivity; Tig and Mig welding and hand working parts of dies (heat treatment of materials); Perform scheduled preventative maintenance on all tooling and complete schedules up to date; Verify conformance of machined or repaired dies to specifications by checking dimensions, clearances and alignments; Troubleshoot problems during production; Modify dies and tooling to conform to engineering changes; Tryout new die sets and tooling; Recommend modifications to existing equipment; Support continuous improvement and lean manufacturing processes; Assist in determining spare parts requirements; Ensure quality product and quality procedures; Troubleshoot all tooling (in or out of the presses); Develop blueprints, CAD data, sketches, and verbal instructions; Perform lock out / tag out procedures; Promote good housekeeping (5S); Establish and maintain communication with other team members and support departments; Train operators and new employees; Maintain accurate documentation; Employ knowledge of all tool room equipment including measuring instruments; Employ knowledge of die work and operations; Use precision measuring instruments, micrometers, calipers, gauge blocks, height gauges, indicators; tig welding of tool steels, including the process of pre heating and post heating to reduce stresses in the steel(prevent cracking, brittleness, or other metallurgic defects); maintain stamping dies during production runs to meet quality and performance; perform preventative maintenance of stamping dies; verify trim, form, flange components, cutting clearance, sharpening cutting sections; clean and repair any defects that could be caused from production; Employ knowledge of Press and Assembly Operations and Quality Procedures; Understand and promote Magna’s philosophies (Magna Operational Principles, Corporate Constitution, and Employee Charter);  Follow and enforce all plant safety rules and policies; and Perform other duties as required. Requires a Tool and Die Maker Certificate and 24 months of related experience as a Tool and Die Maker, Tool and Die  Manager, or Tool and Die Engineering Specialist. The related experience must include experience using precision measuring instruments, micrometers, calipers, gauge blocks, height gauges, indicators; tig welding of tool steels, including the process of pre heating and post heating to reduce stresses in the steel(prevent cracking, brittleness, or other metallurgic defects); maintaining stamping dies during production runs to meet quality and performance; performing preventative maintenance of stamping dies, verifying trim, form, flange components, cutting clearance, sharpening cutting sections, cleaning and repairing any defects that could be caused from production. 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.; M-F, $77,064.00 per year.
