Summary

This position is the Assistant Chief of Radiology Service (ACORS) (MD or DO) with both clinical and administrative roles. As a leader of Radiology Service (ACORS), the ACORS shares responsibility for the overall operation of the radiology service with the Chief of Radiology Service and works under the direction of the Chief of Radiology Service.



Duties

This vacancy will remain open until filled.

Duties may include but are not limited to:

  • Share the responsibility for the overall management of the Radiology Service. This includes the organization of the administrative day-to day activities of Radiology.
  • Assume responsibility for carrying out the goals, objectives, and plans and policies established by the Medical Center Director (MCD).
  • Ensure the service functions as an integrated care delivery system, providing a full continuum of patient-focused radiology services for Veterans.
  • Formulate and implement general policies, procedures, standards, and goals and objectives for the Radiology Service that are consistent with, and supportive of, the mission of the LVAHCS and VISN 9.
  • Coordinate and integrate the interdepartmental functioning of Radiology Service. This includes chairing relevant meetings.
  • Complete performance appraisal and serve as approving official for the ratings of the Radiology practitioners as delegated by the Chief of Radiology Service
  • Ensure, with the assistance of discipline specific-subject matter experts, and the MEC, that all Radiology Service staff meet or exceed licensing requirements and clinical competencies in their fields.
  • VISN liaison for radiology service issues, meetings, collaborative, and other activities as delegated by the Chief of Radiology Service.
  • Assess, consult, and treat patients with radiology needs requiring opinion or intervention, in the outpatient and inpatient settings. The ACORS is responsible for diagnosis, management, and follow-up of patients in both settings, as appropriate for care of those patients. In some instances, the ACORS will assess, diagnose, and make recommendations to other specialty services regarding management and follow-up of the patient. It is the responsibility of the specialty provider to review and implement the ACORS's recommendations based on the radiology or specialty provider's clinical judgment.
  • Interpretation of the testing and other specialty imaging to establish diagnosis and assist in management of radiology conditions.
  • Assess the individual patient for appropriateness of procedures by evaluating the risks and benefits related to the patient's condition. Responsible for performing any radiology procedures covered under their credentials. Responsible for identification of radiology managed abnormalities to include, but not be limited to: core privileges contained in the credentials files. Makes clinical recommendations to specialty providers for follow up and management.
  • Act as the consultant for patients referred to him/her for input regarding radiology medical opinion or intervention.
  • The ACORS will keep abreast of the recent advances in the delivery of radiology care techniques and technological innovations as they become available. The CORS will apply these techniques and innovations within the framework of the Veterans Administration's guidelines, directives, goals and mission.
  • The ACORS is to follow standards of clinical competence and conduct; to also maintain standards through compliance with credentialing and privileging, clinical practice and performance, and comply with other quality improvement activities.
  • Provide quality clinical care and services with regard to customer satisfaction, compliance with Joint Commission regulations and other relevant accrediting agencies as indicated and ensure efficiency of service delivery.
  • Achieve Performance Improvement/QM programs in his/her practice.
