Summary

The work to be performed must be provided by a Neurosurgeon physician who is board certified/board eligible in the respective neurosurgical specialty. S/he must be available to examine, diagnose, treat, and manage patients with common neurosurgical problems in the respective neurosurgical specialty according to evidence-based practice and VHA standards, usual and acceptable methods, neurosurgical techniques, and specialty-specific management guidelines.



Duties

The incumbent will manage both inpatients and outpatients and/or assists other specialties in the management of patients with general, adult neurosurgical illnesses in the respective surgical specialty. To include (as appropriate):

  • Performing brain and spine surgeries and providing preoperative, perioperative, intraoperative, and postoperative care for patients undergoing routine or urgent inpatient or ambulatory surgical procedures
  • Evaluation and management of surgical emergencies or non-emergent conditions in the emergency department, in the inpatient wards, intensive care unit, and clinics
  • Management of diagnostic, preventative, and/or therapeutic interventions (surgical and non-surgical) in patients with surgical illness
  • Maintaining diagnostic and therapeutic acumen by ensuring current knowledge and skills in the respective surgical specialty
  • Providing appropriate supervision of trainees in all care settings and completing all medical records in accordance with Bylaws, Rules, and Regulations of the medical staff
  • Coordinating transfer of specialty-specific patients from/to other hospitals if necessary
  • Collaborating with other departments and sections including, but not limited to, specialists, nursing staff, social services, utilization management, and other members of the interdisciplinary care team to coordinate the care and/or discharge of surgical patients.
  • Providing specialty-specific call coverage for Veterans presenting after hours at night on weekends
  • Maintain an unrestricted medical license.

Pay: Competitive salary, annual performance bonus, regular salary increases

Contract: No Physician Employment Contract and no significant restriction on moonlighting
Work Schedule: Part time (30 hours/Week) or Full time (40 hours/Week) is available; Monday - Friday.
