This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after complete review of the EDRP application.

Pay: Competitive salary, annual performance bonus, regular salary increases

The Otolaryngology Surgery Section Chief is responsible and accountable for all clinical, administrative, and performance improvement activities for their assigned sections at a site within Orlando VAHCS. In addition to assisting the Deputy ACOS or ACOS, Surgical Service with the day to day to day operations, this position is designed to actively participate in projects in personnel management and recruitment, strategic planning, health care quality performance monitoring and management, and in various aspects of productivity. Additional duties can be assigned as demand arises.

Duties include but are not limited to;
Assures that each patient presenting for care receives quality medical care within the limits and resources of the facility, obtaining referral to another VA facility or VA Community Care if resources are not available.
Directs and oversees the clinical activities of the Otolaryngology surgery providers, including surgeons, advanced practice providers, and learners.
Works collaboratively with other disciplines and services to assure quality medical care.
Participates in direct patient care in outpatient and inpatient setting, operative and emergent, and participates in a rotating call schedule.
Promotes virtual care modalities for care delivery and ensures incorporation of such modalities into daily operations
Is responsible for distribution of applicable medical center and outpatient clinic policies, rules and regulations, and medical staff bylaws to personnel.
Professional oversight of staff at assigned sites and section.
Collaboration with all surgery disciplines to support processes, including monitoring and improving Otolaryngology and surgical metrics, supporting new initiatives, improving ESAT measures, reviewing NSO measures, attending surgery leadership meetings.
Responsible for meeting the performance improvement requirements of both the Joint Commission and the Department of Veterans Affairs, and for directing, educating, and involving all staff in these areas in the performance improvement process.
Mandatory active participation in performance improvement projects leading to improved measurable outcomes for veterans.
Leads M&M for the Otolaryngology surgery section and holds monthly M&M conferences. Minutes are sent to surgery leadership.
Participates in the following committees: weekly lead/chief meeting, monthly surgical service meeting, facility surgery workgroup meeting and others as designated by the Deputy ACOS or ACOS, Surgical Service. You are encouraged to participate in a facility or VISN committee.
Actively participates in regular huddles with the team, including nursing and HAS, and addresses issues and concerns raised by staff in a timely and appropriate manner.

Work Schedule:
M-F 8am-430pm


(Note: Work schedules are determined and approved by the supervisor. The incumbent may be required to work various shifts on a permanent or temporary basis based on facility/patient care needs).
