Job Description The dock master is responsible for coordinating and supervising all receiving and shipping activities, directing, and monitoring all traffic in and out of the loading dock.
The Dock Master is responsible for managing inbound and outbound shipments, including maintaining accurate counts and quality control procedures for incoming deliveries of supplies and capital equipment.
Responsibilities include dock management, vendor delivery schedule management, checks of incoming shipments against packing slips, and organizing and staging deliveries until they can be distributed by the receiving team, to their destination.
The Dock Master ensures the timely removal and disposal of cardboard and pallets from the dock and surrounding areas.
Experience 2 years of experience in a Distribution or Materials Management Proficiency with Materials Management systems Preferred Qualifications Experience with Workday preferred Experience managing loading dock and vendor delivery schedules Vendor management experience Education High school diploma or equivalent Certification Summary No professional certifications required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Excellent written and verbal communication skills Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, emphasis on Excel and Word Strong organizational, problem-solving, interpersonal, and analytical skills Ability to manage priorities and workflow Versatility, flexibility, and a willingness to work within constantly changing priorities with enthusiasm Ability to deal effectively with a diversity of individuals at all organizational levels Good judgment with the ability to make timely and sound decisions Job Responsibilities Monitor and direct all inbound and outbound vehicle traffic on the dock.
Monitor all drivers, vendors, contractors, and others working within the area of responsibility to ensure safety.
Supervise and coordinate all activities related to the unloading of inbound shipments and quality assurance of shipments in accordance with productivity requirements.
Maintains a safe, clean, and orderly working environment on the dock.
Coordinate vendor deliveries across multiple departments.
Monitors and manages the inbound and outbound shipments including signing delivery documents and checking in packages and equipment delivered to the loading dock.
Inspects shipments for damages, shortages, and discrepancies.
Verifies that items and quantities received match purchase order.
Captures receipts and packing slips in Workday where applicable.
Stores packing slips based on document retention policy.
Organizes and ensures proper placement and staging of all received equipment and materials.
Ensures temperature and time sensitive products and emergent purchase orders are expedited for delivery.
Develop and maintains vendor delivery schedule and ensures compliance.
Reports damages and shortages to the vendor and buyer.
Documents findings and actions.
Labels equipment and/or bulk pallets stored on dock with date, Purchase Order number (if applicable), owner name and phone number.
Works with customers and Manager to push product off the dock.
Prepares, stages, and schedules outgoing shipments, and product returns using preferred shipper, when appropriate.
Demonstrates excellent customer service to hospital staff, patients, and visitors.
Seeks creative solutions to meet customer requests.
Courteously and professionally responds to all customer inquiries and takes on special projects as assigned.
Follows all hospital Safety Policies and Procedures.
Demonstrate awareness of and use of proper body mechanics.
