Senior Locksmith-Mount Sinai Beth Israel/45 Rivington Street-Full Time, M-F, 8am to 4pm

To maintain the master keying system, and perform Locksmith duties as required. Is cognizant of the philosophy, standards, objectives and policies of the Department and the Hospital Center.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Insures the Security of the hospital premises and property by maintaining a master keying system, and sees that the lock cylinder is keyed to the individual, floor Master, Sub-Floor Master, Building Master, and the Great Grand Master and can be opened by at least the Great Grand Master.

  • Maintains an accurate and up-to-date record of the key codes for every lock in the hospital, including all 8300 doors, all lockers, desks, file cabinets, safe deposit boxes, narcotic cabinets, padlocks, etc.

  • Translates these codes into cylinder combinations to duplicate keys as needed, produces keys and maintains records of who they are issued to.

  • Regularly inventories supplies of key blanks, locks and other materials needed, in order to maintain an appropriate stock level.

  • Evaluates, based on hospital needs and experience as locksmith, the quality of venders' product and service and recommends various vendors.

  • Confers with the Director of Engineering on funds needed to operate the Locksmith Shop and accounts for all money spent on an annual basis.

  • Assists the Director and Manager of Engineering in evaluating Security needs and analyzing areas where significant losses or problems exist, by examining locks, keying, etc., and recommending and/or designing and installing new devices.

  • Prepares reports showing work performed, supplies used and on hand, and costs for the Locksmith Shop.

  • Prepares a hook number log of all keys in the hospital to insure sites are uniform. Performs other duties as required.

  • Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care, based on physical, psychosocial, educational, safety, and related criteria, appropriate to the age of the patients served in assigned area.

  • Repairs lock and door checks and Re-Keys locks.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.

  • New York City Locksmith License required.

  • One year as a locksmith, exposure to large master keying system, knowledge of security helpful.
