What will I do in this position if hired?
In this position, you will serve as a Supervisory Emergency Management Specialist (Hazard Mitigation Division Director). Typical assignments include:
Working to develop, align and articulate strategic direction and annual priorities for the Division, in coordination with FEMA and Resilience senior leadership, the Office of Management and Budget and the White House. Ensuring that developed hazard mitigation program guidance complies with and follows emergency management-related directives, regulations, policies, laws, standards and guidance, for example: Hazard Mitigation Grant Program (HMGP), Pre-Disaster Mitigation (PDM) grant program, Flood Mitigation Assistance (FMA) grant program, Building Resilient Infrastructure and Communities (BRIC) grant program, Safeguarding Tomorrow Revolving Loan Fund (STRLF) grant program - under the Stafford Act and the National Flood Insurance Act, and other related programs. Providing oversight of work that includes resolving a broad range of issues concerning the application of any of FEMA's enabling statutes, pertinent regulations, and/or general laws affecting mitigation programs. Coordinating and maintaining relationships with external stakeholders and partners to advance hazard mitigation grant programs. Developing workforce and resourcing plans and strategies to support program direction and implementation, including identifying developmental and training needs of employees. Supporting Equal Employment Opportunity and other personnel management programs.

Travel requirements in support of emergency operations may be extensive in nature (weeks to months), with little advance notice, and may require employees to relocate to emergency sites with physically austere and operationally challenging conditions.

Key Requirements: You must be a U.S. citizen to apply for this position. You must successfully pass a background investigation. Selective Service registration required. Qualifications
Current Federal employees must have served 52 weeks at the next lower grade or equivalent grade band in the Federal service. The time-in-grade and qualification requirements must be met within 30 days of the closing date of this announcement.
To qualify for this position at the GS-15 level, you must possess one full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-14 level in the Federal government, which has equipped you with the skills needed to successfully perform the duties of the position. Experience may be obtained in the federal government, a state or local government, or private sector, and must demonstrate the following:
Providing senior level management with advice, recommendations or direction on the development/management of hazard mitigation programs/policies; and, Initiating, leading or managing programs/projects; and, Supervising and directing work assignments, projects, deadlines, or initiatives.
