Responsibilities: Lead the CALS Office of Academic Affairs and its programs.

* Articulate and implement a clear vision to faculty, staff and administration regarding student recruiting, student success, academic program development, curricular innovation, and student services.

* Build academic programs that embrace diversity on all levels, including race, ethnicity, gender, socioeconomic status, and variety within academic fields. Encourage the creation of programs and learning environments that assist in fulfilling the college's and the university's mission and goals.

* Support and lead innovation in curriculum development, instructional approaches, international opportunities, internships, career services, honors program, recruitment and prospective student services, and CALS-affiliated residential learning communities, and also for faculty and staff development in educational effectiveness and innovation.

* Work to coordinate program reviews of CALS academic programs and organize and manage the process for review of academic programs as required by the Provost's office and accrediting bodies, where appropriate.

* Serve as the Dean's designee in the enforcement of undergraduate academic requirements and regulations, including oversight of student appeals.

* Serve as a resource to the Dean, chairs and advancement staff in crafting goals and achieving objectives related to development and alumni relations as it relates to student programs and financial aid.

Education: Required PhD within an agricultural or life sciences field

Qualifications:

* This Associate Dean role is required to have a concurrent faculty appointment at the rank of Professor. To become tenured, the candidate's qualifications must be sufficient to meet the requirement for tenure in the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences at the University of Wisconsin- Madison, which includes a substantial nationally recognized record of research, publication, teaching, and service.

Other requirements:

* A leadership record that includes faculty rank at full professor, and a record of successful achievements

* Demonstrated knowledge of academic affairs and procedures.

* Demonstrated ability to work effectively across functional areas and with faculty, staff, students and trainees from a wide variety of cultural, academic and professional backgrounds

* Ability to deal with a broad range of individuals and departments with equanimity; ability to apply mature and balanced judgment; ability to manage conflict.

* Ability to manage a complex unit with 25 employees, and ensure instructional and advising excellence by the college.

* Excellent communication skills.

* Flexibility and comfort with organizational changes.

Additional preferred experience:

* Administrative experience (as department chair, program director, and/or other administrative service) or significant leadership experience on key college or university committees is highly desirable.

* Experience analyzing financial information and strategically planning budgets is highly desirable.
