UAA Information Technology Services is seeking a highly qualified individual for the role of Network Engineer. The ideal candidate will have a solid background with a wide variety of Cisco routing and switching products as well as security products from Cisco and Palo Alto Networks and wireless products from Cisco and Aruba. UAA Information Technology Services is a great place to work, with a positive team dedicated to student, faculty and staff success. To thrive in this role you must be proactive, detail-oriented, and continuously seeking to improve the network performance and security. You must work effectively with with other IT team members, customers, and vendors to achieve common goals. Stay open to new ideas and approaches, and be willing to experiment with emerging technologies. You will need to demonstrate strong verbal and written communication skills to convey technical information clearly. You must be willing to stay flexible in handling unexpected network issues or emergencies, including being available for after-hours work when necessary.

Junior Network Engineer (Grade 79):
One to three years of demonstrated experience as a network administrator or engineer with a variety of routing, switching, wireless, and telecommunication products. Sound understanding of networking fundamentals, including subnetting, troubleshooting, and protocols like OSPF, SNMP, and DHCP. Exhibits problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and ability to work effectively in a team environment, all while
continuously learning about emerging networking technologies and best practices. Job duties will be performed under the general direction of their supervisor and senior engineer(s) on the team.

Network Engineer (Grade 80):
Three years of demonstrated experience as a network administrator or engineer with a wide variety of routing, switching, security, wireless, and telecommunication products. Exhibits the ability to design, implement, and maintain scalable, high-performance network architectures to support academic, administrative, and research needs. Experience managing network-related projects, including upgrades, migrations, and new implementations. Most job duties will be performed independently, with some general direction from their supervisor and senior engineer(s) on the team.

Senior Network Engineer (Grade 82):
Extensive experience, four or more years, in network engineering, with a proven track record in managing and maintaining complex network infrastructures. Proven ability to design, implement, and maintain complex, secure, and scalable network architectures. Strong project management skills, with experience leading network related projects, including network migrations, upgrades, and new implementations. Ability to manage project timelines, resources, and budgets effectively. Job duties will be performed independently, while providing mentorship and general direction to junior engineers on the team.

• Minimum of one to three years progressively responsible experience, or training, in network engineering, network operations, network design, or administration.
• Experience with network hardware devices from vendors such as Cisco, Juniper, Palo Alto Networks, etc.
• Familiarity with network monitoring and management tools (e.g., SolarWinds, Wireshark)
• Experience with VoIP platforms such as Cisco Unified Communications Manager (CUCM), Microsoft Teams Phone System, or similar
• Proficiency in wireless networking protocols, RF fundamentals, and WLAN security mechanisms
• Familiarity of network security principles and best practices, including firewalls, VPNs, and Network Access Control systems

Minimum Qualifications:

Junior Network Engineer (Grade 79):
Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (i.e. Information Technology or other related field) and 2 years experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Cisco CCNA/CCNP certification preferred.

Network Engineer (Grade 80):
Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (i.e. Information Technology or other related field) and 3 years experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Cisco CCNA/CCNP certification preferred.

Senior Network Engineer (Grade 82):
Master’s degree in a relevant field (i.e. Information Technology or other related field) and 4 years progressively responsible experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Cisco CCNA/CCNP certification preferred.

Position Details:

This is a full-time, non-exempt staff position complete with both a competitive salary and full employee benefits package. UA provides a generous compensation package that includes retirement options, annual leave, 12 paid holidays per year, tuition waivers for employees and family members, and affordable medical, dental and vision care coverage. New hires will be placed on the UA Staff Salary Schedule, Grade 79, 80 or 82, based on education and experience.
