As the director of registration and collections, you will manage all aspects of SCAD museums registration and collections management functions, including documentation and database management, temporary and traveling exhibitions, incoming and outgoing loans, storage, shipping, loan agreements, and insurance. You will implement collections management policies related to the direct care of the physical integrity and safety of the works on view at the museums and art in the collection. This includes the handling and moving of works of art, ensuring proper installation of objects for display and storage, and maintaining and advising on safe methods of packing and transport of objects. 

Your responsibilities as the director will include supervising data entry standards, managing inventory, acting as a courier for traveling exhibits, overseeing the upkeep of museum standards, and conducting condition checks. Additionally, in this role, you will maintain contact with lenders and generate facility reports for all exhibition sites.

The ideal candidate will be able to adapt quickly to a fast-paced environment and demonstrate success in multitasking when there are conflicting time constraints with the ability to prioritize. They will also know current museum techniques, practices, and standards for special exhibitions, registration methods, and collections records. They will be able to lead others, supervise, motivate, and evaluate staff while working effectively and in close cooperation with a wide range of stakeholders.

Minimum Qualifications:  
• Master’s degree in art history, museum studies, or an appropriate art field with a minimum of five years of registration experience at a senior level within a major art museum
• Experience with all aspects of permanent collections stewardship and major international loans and exhibitions

• Attention to detail, strong communication skills, and a sense of responsibility
• Successful experience arranging domestic and foreign shipping of artwork with knowledge of customs regulations and other federal and state laws
• Thorough understanding of U.S. fine arts insurance policies, including procurement

Travel Required:

  • 10-20%

Work Hours: The university work week is Sunday through Saturday. Most offices are open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. To accommodate business needs, employees may be assigned to other workdays and/or hours, including weekends and evenings.
