Lee Enterprises is looking for a part-time (25 hours per week) Assistant Payroll Specialist to assist with weekly payroll activities including review and distribution of mail and processing employee garnishments and levies. Provide back-up for payroll processors including time sheet verification, personnel action and pay adjustment processing. Prepare payroll-related reports and respond to management and employee inquiries as necessary.
Essential functions
- Review and distribute payroll and human resources mail to correct recipients.
- Review and resolve issues with time sheets prior to weekly payroll processing.
- Process personnel action changes, such as salary changes, position transfers, and terminations, to maintain and update payroll records.
- Accurately process new employee forms and updates to employee information in the payroll system.
- Verify attendance, hours worked, and pay adjustments, and post information onto designated records.
- Record adjustments to pay related to previous errors or retroactive increases.
- Assist with processing and distribution of employee paychecks and statements of earnings and deductions.
- Provide information and training to employees and managers on payroll and timekeeping matters.
- Coordinate special programs, such as United Way campaigns, that involve payroll deductions.
- Keep informed about changes in tax and deduction laws that apply to the payroll process.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
- Ability to function in a distributed workforce environment.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
- High school diploma or equivalent
- At least one year related office experience
- Associates or bachelor's degree
- Ceridian Dayforce payroll or Ceridian Tax Services
- Payroll or accounting knowledge
- FPC or CPP designation
- Math/accounting aptitude
- Ability to read and write English fluently.
- The ability to see details at close range (within a few feet of the observer).
- The ability to communicate information and ideas in speaking so others will understand.
- Ability to sit 75 - 80 % of time
- Ability to lift up to 25 lbs
