What we need

We are seeking a hands-on Senior Director of Hardware Engineering. This individual should be not only deeply rooted in the robotics domain but also have a holistic understanding of automation, mechanical, electrical and industrial contexts.

What you'll do

  1. Technical Leadership: Dive deep into complex hardware challenges, providing hands-on technical guidance and solutions. Ensure our robotic and automation designs are both innovative and feasible.
  2. Leadership: Coach, mentor, and grow the hardware engineering team, ensuring a blend of creativity and discipline in every project. Develop reports and manage high performing teams.
  3. Robotic Design Excellence: Ensure our robotic solutions are mechanically and electrically sound, backed by meticulous design, rigorous testing, and iterative refinement.
  4. Industrial Acumen: Integrate an industrial perspective into our designs, focusing on aspects like PLCs, motor systems, drives, and conveyance mechanisms to ensure our automated and robotics solutions can thrive in real-world industrial environments.
  5. Software Synergy: Foster a strong collaboration between hardware and software teams. Ensure high-level and low-level software integration aligns seamlessly with hardware functionalities.
  6. Strategic Planning: Set the direction for the hardware engineering department, ensuring alignment with the company's overarching vision and goals. Drive Key Performance Indicators across the Hardware Engineering team.
  7. Stakeholder Engagement: Regularly liaise with other department heads, executives, and external partners to align on project objectives, deliverables, and timelines.
  8. Intense Collaboration: Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams (software, design, procurement, installation, commissioning, and product management) to ensure seamless integration and functionality.
  9. Continuous Learning: Stay updated with the latest trends, technologies, and best practices in robotics, automation, mechanical design, and industrial applications. Deliver continuous improvement, value-add and cost reductions.
  10. Travel: Travel to up to 25%.

What you'll need

  1. Bachelor's degree (Master's degree preferred) in Engineering Mechanical, Electrical, Robotics, or a related field.
  2. 15+ years in hardware engineering, with a substantial focus on automation, robotics and/or automotive.
  3. Proven ability and experience in designing and scaling industrial automation and robotic solutions, in a fast pace and customer-focused environment.
  4. Hands-on expertise in mechanical, electrical and industrial design, industrial controller, motor systems, drives, sensors and conveyance mechanisms.
  5. Strong understanding of design principles, product life management, engineering design environment, manufacturing processes, safety and quality control procedures.
  6. Experience leading various distributed/multi locations team, including external design partners.
  7. Deep understanding of the robotics field, both from a mechanical and software automation perspective.
  8. Familiarity with high-level and low-level software integration in robotic systems.
  9. Demonstrated leadership with a hands-on approach, ensuring practical and efficient solutions.
  10. Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  11. Strong interpersonal skills, capable of fostering collaboration and navigating complex organizational structures.
  12. Certifications or additional training in industrial systems, PLC programming, and conveyance systems is desirable.

Other Considerations

  1. Up to 25% of travel may be required. Employees must have a valid driver's license and the ability to drive and/or fly to client and other customer locations.
  2. The employee is responsible for owning a credit card and managing expenses personally to be reimbursed on a bi-weekly basis.
