Position Summary
The Charge Nurse is responsible for coordinating activities on assigned nursing unit for his/her tour of duty in addition to direct patient care responsibilities. Supervises all patient care and serves as a resource person to unit personnel. Keeps Nursing Leadership informed as appropriate. Promotes cooperation, a positive attitude and creates a safe environment for both patients and employees. Responsible for knowing and adhering to established Hospital policies and procedures, including all aspects of safety.
Duties of a Charge Nurse may include the following but are not limited to:
Coordinating activities on assigned nursing unit for his/her tour of duty in addition to direct patient care responsibilities.
Demonstrates awareness of patient care needs and is available as a resource to assist staff in meeting these needs.
Evaluates staff for accurate completion of assignments and ensures quality of patient care.
Supervises activities of nursing staff.
Keeps Nursing Leadership informed as appropriate.
Promotes cooperation, a positive attitude and creates a safe environment for both patients and employees.
Responsible for knowing and adhering to established Hospital policies and procedures, including all aspects of safety.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
Current NYS RN licensure
Current BLS/ACLS provider certifications from the American Heart Association
Minimum of three years of progressive nursing experience
Ability to lift patients with assistance
Ability to push heavy objects
Requires standing/walking 50% of the time
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in Nursing

Successfully complete pre-employment physical examination and obtain medical clearance from Stony Brook Southampton's Employee Health Services*

Successfully complete a 4-panel drug screen*

Meet Regulatory Requirements for pre-employment screenings.

Provide a copy of any required New York State license(s)/certificate(s).
