Job Summary

The ECLC Teacher Assistant works as a team to provide a caring, safe and nurturing environment and age-appropriate programing for children 6 weeks-5 years of age.  She/He is under the direct supervision of the Lead Teacher in the classroom.  The St. Joseph ECLC provides a variety of programming to meet the individual needs of each child.

Job Responsibilities

Included but not limited to the following:
•    Assist the Lead Teacher in implementing curriculum and planning daily activities that are developmentally appropriate for young children
•    Possess the knowledge and skills necessary to operate the classroom in absence of the Lead Teacher
•    Engage children in activities and play that stimulates their development
•    Appropriately supervise children while keeping them safe at all times
•    Assist children with activities of daily life (e.g., diapering/restroom use, feeding, dressing)
•    Seek out opportunities to recognize and celebrate new developmental achievements
•    Help facilitate daily activities that are developmentally appropriate for preschoolers
•    Creating and maintaining an environment that is clean, organized, and safe for all children
•    Establish a professional level of rapport with each family in order to provide quality care and friendly service
•    Attend and engage in occasional parent participation events and other events that may be on nights and/or weekends
•    Assist with the completion of daily Brightwheel communications involving the daily activities pertaining to eating, sleeping, and diaper changing
•    Communicate with the Lead Teacher regarding all aspects of the children’s care as well as classroom management
•    Maintain a professional self-image and project the values of the organization at all times

Job Requirements

Knowledge & Experience Requirements
•    Must be at least 18 years of age
•    AA degree in Early Childhood Education preferred or a related field such as Child Development
•    At least 1 year of experience working with children and/or a certificate in early childhood education or currently working towards the completion of one
•    Submit to a background check
•    Be CPR and First Aid certified - preferred
•    Possess a strong work ethic, be punctual, and have minimal absences
•    Have an awareness of the unique needs of young children and have appropriate expectations of their abilities
•    Be able to kneel, bend, squat, lift, push, pull, and carry children up to 50lbs
•    Must have significant physical mobility and the ability to react quickly to the risks or dangers that young children may put themselves into
•    Ability to safely use basic office machinery/equipment
•    Be available for full time employment and available to work as late as 6:30 pm
•    Have dependable transportation

Maintain positive relationships with students, parents, staff and administration
