Research Assistant | Laboratory of Molecular Biophysics

New York, United States The Rockefeller University Full time
Organization Overview

RNA, the blueprint for proteins, is made in all cells by a complex molecular machine, the DNA-dependent RNA polymerase. The lab's research explores the mechanism and regulation of transcription by determining the three-dimensional structures of RNA polymerase and other associated proteins. These proteins are conserved from bacteria to humans, making the simpler bacterial version an excellent model for understanding how transcription and, by extension, gene expression are controlled.
Overview

The Research Assistant will execute scientific experiments under the guidance of senior scientists as well as help maintain laboratory functions such as making general solutions or calibrating equipment.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities include:
  • Conduct experiments involving cloning, expressing and purifying proteins
  • Maintain laboratory functions such as making general solutions or calibrating equipment

Qualifications

Required:
  • Bachelor's degree
  • A commitment of two years
  • Must be adept at using general lab equipment such as centrifuges, pH meters, pipettes, gel electrophoresis
  • Skills in basic chemistry and microbiology lab techniques
  • Cloning experience
  • Experience in over expressing and purifying proteins is preferred
