Job Description:

The Department of Languages & Philosophy at Southern Utah University seeks a Lecturer of Spanish to begin in fall semester 2024. The position consists of a renewable nine-month contract with a 15-credit/semester teaching load. Responsibilities include teaching in the Spanish program at Southern Utah University and being responsible for and teaching in the Cedar High School Spanish Bridge Program. SUU has a dynamic, multifaceted Spanish program, which includes active student-led organizations, campus community events such as the annual Day of the Dead celebration, and annual professor-led summer study abroad programs.

The first date of consideration is May 16, 2024.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Teach Spanish in the SUU Spanish program, primarily consists of elementary and intermediate Spanish courses with occasional opportunities for upper-division courses.Participate in SUU Spanish program service activities, such as recruitment and retention efforts (study abroad, programmatic events, extracurricular activities, etc.)Develop curriculum that will assist SUU students in securing future job placement (such as Spanish for the Professions, Translation, Interpretation, certificate programs, etc.)Teach Spanish in the Cedar High School Bridge Program, serve as liaison between the Bridge Program and the SUU Spanish program, and create opportunities for Bridge students to connect with SUU campus resources and SUU language programs.
Education and Experience Requirements:
Ph.D. in Spanish or Hispanic Studies in hand. Open specialty, but preference for the cultures and literatures of the Spanish-speaking world.Experience and demonstrated excellence teaching all levels of Spanish at the college-level, and in secondary school.Preference for experience organizing and leading study abroad programs, and conducting recruitment activities.
