Summary
Use appropriate teaching methods to facilitate student learning for Pharmacy Tech courses.
Duties
- Teach synchronous or asynchronous lecture and laboratory courses using current technology applicable to the discipline which may include face to face, field-based, online, and/or video-conferenced courses as needed.
- Utilize and help create Pharmacy Tech curriculum to offer appropriately challenging coursework that helps students realize their full potential as learners.
- Ensure course content, activities, and assignments are developed and taught in consultation with the Director of Healthcare Workforce Programs and in alignment with current industry standards and legal requirements. Course content includes, but is not limited to, syllabus, course policies, video lectures, assignments, exams, instructions, grading rubrics, etc.
- Meet all designated course instruction guidelines, including delivering lectures and labs, leading fieldwork (as applicable), making weekly announcements with relevant information, monitoring and participating in discussions, grading student coursework within 72 hours of submission deadline, providing students timely and specific feedback, responding to student email inquiries within 24 hours, maintaining weekly office hours (virtual or in person, depending on need), and other requirements as established by the Director of Healthcare Workforce Programs.
- Maintain frequent and open communication with the Director of Healthcare Workforce Programs, faculty, and staff through email, mail, telephone, and any other medium deemed appropriate. Be available at least once a semester to attend a virtual or in person meeting with the Director of Healthcare Workforce Programs.
- Submit mid-term and final grades by the date specified in the official Applied Technology and/or university calendar(s).
- Create and maintains a safe, inclusive, student-centric learning environment always for student, staff, by enforcing industry standard safety practices and WNMU policies.
- Immediately communicate with Healthcare Workforce Programs Director for issues related to maintenance or management of classroom supplies and equipment.
- Assist in recruitment, advising, and retention of students for Healthcare Workforce and other university programs.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Education/Background
Graduation from an accredited Pharmacy Technician program recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education or the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA), or graduation from an otherwise recognized training entity (e.g. hospital-based program) in Pharmacy Technician, or graduation in Pharmacy Technician from an institution located outside of the United States and its territories. BLS certification must be current. Three (3) years of occupational (i.e. practical) experience in the pharmacy setting or expertise in the Pharmacy field preferred. Pharmacy license, certification, or other designation required by local, state, or federal laws to work in the Pharmacy field preferred. Bilingual (Spanish) preferred.
Job Knowledge
Instruction, trainer, or supervisory experience in pharmacy settings supervising pharmacy tech students preferred. Supervision of pharmacy technicians or pharmacy technician students in the clinical setting. Communication skills with critical thinking regarding student supervision. Competence in all pharmacy tech skills. Must be able to adapt to instructional needs of students and the department depending on circumstances. Must be knowledgeable of university policies and procedures. Must be able to handle multiple deadlines and maintain accuracy. Must be sensitive to cultural differences within the University and community. Fluent in Microsoft Office Applications (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint). Must possess good verbal and written skills.
Working Conditions/ Physical Demands (With or Without Accommodations)
Normal classroom and laboratory environment based on face-to-face or online course(s). When appropriate, must be able to work in the clinical environment with students. May be required to lift normal office equipment and materials. Able to lift 50 pounds and assist with patient care. Visual acuity to read information from computer screens, forms and other printed materials and information. Able to speak (enunciate) clearly in conversation and general communication. Hearing ability for verbal communication/conversation/responses via telephone, telephone systems, and face-to-face interactions. Manual dexterity for typing, writing, standing, and reaching, flexibility, body movement for bending, crouching, walking, kneeling and prolonged sitting. May be required to work additional hours or days depending on circumstances.
Other Requirements
