Description:
The Hobby School of Public Affairs at the University of Houston (UH) invites applications for a non-tenure track faculty position at the Research Associate Professor level beginning in August 2024.

Appointment to this position requires a Ph.D. in political science or public policy. The successful candidate should have at least five years of experience in research and teaching, and demonstrate expertise in quantitative methods, experience publishing academic and technical research, a strong record securing grants and external funding, a collaborative and respectful approach to work, and the ability to effectively manage multiple projects to achieve performance objectives.

Preferred qualifications include expertise in public policy, American politics, and comparative politics. We seek to recruit a senior faculty member capable of using data to understand and address the political problems affecting policymaking in our communities, and substantive expertise in climate change, sustainable development, energy transition, community development, and household vulnerability and resiliency. Background in political behavior, representation and participation, and proficiency in statistical analysis and visualization of data, survey research, and other research tools are highly valued.

In the selection process, the search committee will prioritize scholars with cross-cutting disciplinary and methodological interests who produce and publish nationally recognized, interdisciplinary work on significant public policy issues. The ideal candidate will have a strong record of partnerships with government agencies, community organizations, and academic researchers, as well as experience securing grants and external funding.

The Research Associate Professor will support a variety of projects and research activities of the Hobby School and the Center of Public Policy, assist with and participate in Hobby School events, and pursue grants, awards, and other sources of funding to support research, academic programming, student success, community engagement, and impact.

During the academic year, the Research Associate Professor will teach up to four courses; preference will be given to candidates who can teach core courses in policy analysis, introductory courses in quantitative methods, and other specialized courses within public policy.

Duties and Responsibilities
· Teaching Expectations: Ability to teach core courses in policy analysis, introductory courses in quantitative methods, and other specialized courses within public policy.
· Research Expectations: Produce academic research, reports and white papers, apply and manage grants, and secure external funding.

Qualifications:
Required Qualifications

● PhD in Public Policy, Political Science, or related field.

● Minimum of five years of research experience and commensurate publication record.

● Minimum of five years of teaching experience.

● Proven experience in conducting research through surveys and administrative data sources.

● Demonstrated expertise in public policy research.

Preferred Qualifications

● Specialized experience in sustainability and climate change, energy policy and social and political conditions for the energy transition, community development, vulnerability and preparedness.

● Ability to teach core courses in policy analysis, quantitative methods, and other specialized public policy courses at both undergraduate and graduate levels

● A record of partnerships and collaborations with government agencies, community organizations, and academic researchers.

● Experience securing external funding for research through grants and contracts.
