Fall 2024 Intensive Case Management Intern

SCOPE OF WORK
The Fall 2024 Intensive Case Management Intern will partner with the Intensive Case Management (ICM) team to address barriers to self-sufficiency for refugee and asylee clients, including clients with serious medical and mental-health conditions and survivors of sexual and gender-based violence. The intern will be responsible for providing comprehensive case management to ICM clients Resettlement program and building the capacity of the current casework team by assisting in the everyday work of caseworkers.
This is an unpaid internship position that requires a minimum commitment of 10 - 15 hours a week for at least two months.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Conduct client assessments at intake, 6 months, and 12 months after ICM enrollment
- Work in collaboration with the client to develop individualized goals and service plans
- Map community assets and help make referrals to community partners
- Assist in scheduling and accompanying clients to appointments as appropriate
- Assist clients with navigating healthcare and social service systems
- Input case note documentation into IRCâs database
- Communicate client concerns with ICM staff
- Work on additional mezzo and macro projects to increase capacity of the ICM program
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
- Gain exposure to interacting with diverse communities, cultures, and backgrounds.
- Deepen understanding of the unique barriers, challenges, and assets of the refugee and immigrant communities.
- Gain industry knowledge of the U.S. refugee resettlement program and its core services.
- Gain experience in working directly with clients to support their goals.
REQUIREMENTS
- Ability to obtain an AZ Level One Fingerprint Clearance Card.
- Ability to pass an IRC Background check.
- Cultural competency & consideration.
- Excellent written & verbal skills.
- Proficient with Excel & other Microsoft Office applications.
- Self-starter, ability to complete projects with minimal supervision.
- Access to reliable, insured vehicle.
- Interest in public health, social work, or international studies preferred, but not required.
- Computer literacy, data base experience preferred.
- Ability to take initiative and work independently.
- Empathy and open mindedness across-cultural environment.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Must be comfortable working with the LGBTQ community and Asylum Seekers.
TRAINING & GUIDANCE
- In-depth training will be provided for interns to understand IRC programming and the various needs of clients accessing IRC services. Interns will receive training on IRCâs federal R&P and APA service agreements and their programmatic requirements for resettlement services. Interns with client languages who could serve as an interpreter will receive guidance on policies when interpreting. Other activity specific training will be provided as needed. Flexibility, initiative, and a desire to collaborate are essential qualities for this intern opportunity. A high-level of confidentiality is required when working with IRC clients.
- Please note that this is an UNPAID internship; however, IRC Louisville will provide mileage reimbursement for person vehicle usage during the internship. All intern opportunities are contingent on clearing a background check*. Interns must adhere to the IRC intern and workplace policies, which includes confidentiality and client safeguarding.
