Summary

The psychologist for whom this statement applies is a Clinical Psychologist with a specialty practice in the assessment and intervention of Women's Health conditions. The Clinical Psychologist will function as a full member of the Women's Health Center clinical staff and the Health Psychology/Interdisciplinary care Team. The Women's Health Psychologist position's primary duties are to provide Clinical Health Psychology services as an integrated part of the Women's Center



Duties

General Description:

The incumbent, along with the Women's Center Medical Director and their designees, is responsible for the provision of individual and group-based care to address women's health issues (e.g., Childbirth, Re-productive Health, Postpartum Depression, Violence Against Women, Trauma, Cancer, Dysmenorrhea, Menopause, Family Systems Issues, etc.). In addition, the person will serve as a subject matter expert in the content specialty area of behavioral medicine/rehabilitation of women Veterans and will serve as a consultant to other medical center staff in evaluating and treating patients in the specialty area of women's health thru clinical lens of psychologist.

This psychologist has primary clinical responsibilities that include active consultation and liaison with the interdisciplinary women's health team and other assigned duties within the VA Health Care System (CVHCS) in Richmond, Virginia. This psychologist will provide empirically supported, biopsychosocial treatments for women's health issues (e.g. cognitive behavioral therapy, relaxation training, mindfulness meditation, acceptance and commitment therapy, motivational enhancement for health behavior change, psychoeducation and crisis intervention). The incumbent will also provide a full range of psycho-diagnostic services including assessment for a wide range of psychological and behavioral medicine issues for patients with acute and chronic health issues.

Clinical Responsibilities:

  1. Spends at least 80% of clinical time providing women's health interventions via virtual or in-person modality.
  2. Provides a full range of therapeutic interventions within the interdisciplinary team. Triages referrals and deploys empirically supported, biopsychosocial treatments for women's' health issues including trauma triage and brief intervention.
  3. Provides a full range of psycho-diagnostic services including assessment for a wide range of psychological and behavioral medicine issues for patients with acute and chronic medical conditions and disabilities.
  4. Grade Specific:
    • At the GS-11 level, all clinical work is performed under supervision of a licensed psychologist with full privileges at the medical center unless incumbent is independently licensed.
    • At the GS-12 level psychologist may be independently licensed, if not direct supervision of cases is required until independent licensure is attained.
Administrative Responsibilities:
  1. Participates in program development activities related to the Women's Center, including data collection/management, policy development/adherence, and documentation.
  2. Participates in multidisciplinary team meetings with the Women's Health Center, as well as related committee meetings, as indicated by the immediate supervisor, as well as Women's Health section and service leadership.
  3. Supports the development of policies and standard operating procedures, goal setting, and treatment planning processes to ensure compliance with Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (The JC), Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF), and other accrediting bodies and regulatory standards as needed/indicated.
Program Development/Evaluation/Research:
  1. Provides clinical outcome measures to participants as instructed and assists with ensuring that information is shared as indicated.
  2. Participates in program development activities, including data collection/management, policy development/adherence, and documentation.
  3. With a specific focus on the behavioral and psychological management, collaborates with team members to establish performance standards for the interdisciplinary team that promote quality and efficiency of service to the Veterans in coordination with the overall goals of the medical center.
Academic/Teaching/Training: (5% of time, as appropriate when trainees on rotation, otherwise allocated to clinical time)
  1. Involved in Psychology Training Program and Training Committee.
  2. Provides leadership guidance and consultation to staffs of units to which assigned
Other Significant Responsibilities
  1. Other clinical duties as assigned in the Mental Health Service at the Central Virginia VA Health Care System (CVHCS) in Richmond, Virginia.
  2. Full participation in General Health Psychology/Behavioral Medicine group therapy programming.
  3. Provision of other clinical coverage as indicated
