Summary

The incumbent serves as a full-time staff psychologist on the PTSD Clinical Team at the McGuire VA Medical Center, which is a comprehensive, interdisciplinary outpatient treatment program directed toward assisting Veterans with combat stress-related conditions and their families. The PTSD Clinical Team uses an orientation and intake to identify combat veterans, assess their individual needs, and coordinate appropriate services.



Duties

General Duties:
The incumbent in this position provides a full range of psycho-diagnostic assessment, psychotherapeutic and psycho educational interventions as well as consultative services to combat Veterans from all military conflicts who manifest symptoms of post-traumatic and other stress disorders and conditions. The incumbent provides individual and group psychotherapies, and may also provide couples and/or family therapies. S/he provides one or more evidence-based and evidence-informed psychotherapies for PTSD, which include Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), Prolonged Exposure (PE), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR).

Clinical Responsibilities:

  • Ability to diagnose mental disorders and conduct psychological and/or cognitive function assessments and neuropsychological screenings and assessments.
  • Ability to treat mental disorders through a variety of modalities and provide adjunctive interventions for treatment of medical disorders.
  • Provides a full range of psycho-diagnostic services including assessment and using the most appropriate psychotherapeutic techniques in providing quality care.
  • Performs evaluations for psycho-diagnosis, treatment planning and functional evaluations.
  • Provides a full range of therapeutic interventions including individual and group psychotherapy, couples therapy, family therapy, consultation, crisis intervention, rehabilitation, and psycho-education.
  • Conducts intakes in both the PTSD program and the Mental Health Access Clinic.
  • Consults with medical center and CBOC staff on a wide variety of patient care issues.
Administrative Responsibilities:
  • Enters PTSD program outcome data into database for analysis, and conducts or arranges for analysis.
  • Is responsible for timely completion of all clinical charting and documentation required by the Medical Center or healthcare system, as appropriate
Other Significant Responsibilities:
  • May be involved in program evaluation and/or research activities.
  • Oversees the establishment of program monitors and outcome measurements within programs assigned using a data-driven quality assurance processes.
  • If applicable, plans and oversees the completion of personal research programs, designed to provide information regarding program planning and relevant treatment approaches.
  • May present outcome data and research results at VA and regional or national scientific or professional meetings.
  • Assists in preparation of RFPs and grant proposals, as assigned.
  • Serves on other Medical Center or Healthcare System, VISN, and/or National VA committees or task forces as assigned.
  • Represents the Medical Center or Healthcare System at professional/program community group/events and committees as assigned.
  • Other duties as assigned
Age, Developmental, & Cultural Needs of Patients:
The focus of this position is on the provision of psychological services to Veterans enrolled at the McGuire VA Medical Center. These Veterans are typically between 18 and 75 years of age. This position requires the incumbent to possess or develop an understanding of the particular needs of these types of patients. Sensitivity to the special needs of all patients in respect to age, developmental requirements, and culturally related factors must be consistently achieved.
