Foreign Affairs Officer

Position is located in the Department of State, Bureau of Population, Refugees, and Migration (PRM), Office of Multilateral and External Coordination (MEC) and serves as an expert advisor on population policies and related to international humanitarian law and multilateral population and development agreements with responsibility for providing authoritative analysis of political, social, and economic developments for consideration by policy makers.
Duties
- Analyzes and evaluates the effectiveness of programs or operations in meeting established goals and objectives and develops and proposes resolutions to program policy and procedural issues, and coordinates implementation of decisions on programs.
- Provides expert analysis regarding issues of international population and sexual/reproductive health, given PRM’s lead and/or supporting role(s) in managing the USG’s institutional relationship with UN entities.
- Analyzes proposed resolutions regarding population, gender-based violence, sexual and reproductive health (SRH) and other key issues and leads development of interagency consensus on proposed resolutions that have implications on U.S. foreign policy.
- Monitors and evaluates program implementation, ensuring that Bureau-funded organizations are meeting agreed upon program objectives and progress indicators and prepares detailed reporting and recommendations for program improvements.
- Develops reports and documents relevant international population and SRH-related health studies/research conducted and provides briefings to key PRM officers on these studies and the conclusions or recommendations made.
