Summary

The Central Iowa VA is hiring for a RN assigned to Mental Health.



Duties

The VA Midwest Health Care Network advocates for a Whole Health System of care in each of the Medical Centers. This is an approach to healthcare that empowers and equips people to take charge of their health and well-being and live their lives to the fullest. As an employee operating in a Whole Health System of care, you will operate in a model with three core elements, seeking to create a personalized health plan for each Veteran. This is done in the context of healing relationships and healing environments and a connection back to the Veteran's community. This aligns with the Veterans Health Administration (VHA) Mission Statement to Honor America's Veterans by providing exceptional health care that improves their health and well-being.

Major duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Sets an example of excellence in clinical practice and acts as a resource to clinical staff, patients, and families.
  • Practices autonomously to provide holistic assessments of patients. Uses data to design individually tailored interventions and evaluations of care rendered.
  • Mentors employees in the development and enhancement of clinical skills.
  • Systematically evaluates current practice and formulates outcomes for groups of patients and/or organizational processes within area of expertise.
  • Utilize proficient level of knowledge and skills to improve patient outcomes.
  • Communicate regularly with other members of the multidisciplinary team.
  • Monitor staff compliance with safe work practices and procedures, and provide education and re-direction as needed.
  • Identify educational and learning needs, and collaborate with the unit Nurse Manager to develop unit education or in-service to meet learning needs.
  • Shows leadership in improving patient care and helps to enhance staff education and professional development using evidence-based practices.
  • Initiates interdisciplinary project to improve performance.
  • Assesses patient care processes, policies, and procedures related to clinical practice and performance improvement for effectiveness; makes recommendations and/or implements strategies for improvement.
  • Develops data capture and reporting procedures to track progress of program initiatives.
  • Develops policy guidance, motivational materials, and information to facilitate participation in program and unit/clinic initiatives.
  • Maintains and updates policies, SOPs, and guidelines prior to expiration.

Work Schedule: 7:30am - 4:00pm, Monday - Friday
Telework: This position is eligible for Telework, in accordance to facility policy.
Virtual: This is not a virtual position.
