Building Inspector/Building Commissioner

The town of Grafton is accepting applications for the full-time position of Inspector of Buildings/Building Commissioner. This position is responsible for the enforcement of all state codes, laws, rules, and regulations, pertaining to building, environmental, accessibility, planning, zoning, signage and nuisances.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to reviewing all building permit applications and their proposed use for compliance, responding to life safety and emergency situations involving structural collapse, fire, or weather related emergencies, preparing and maintaining inspection records and reports, explaining required policies, procedures, and ordinances to the public, property owners, developers and contractors. This position also prepares and administers the Building Department’s annual operating budget and its annual report.
This is a 35 hour per week position, classified as Grade 7, with a salary range of $88,850 up to $116,550, DOQ.
A valid drivers license, State Certification as an inspector of buildings/building commissioners, and a Massachusetts Supervisor’s License are required. Additionally, applicants must have a minimum of an associate's degree or journeyman's level of trade knowledge; and five years of related experience in the building trade field with one to three years prior work experience as a Local Building Inspector; or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience
The successful applicant must be able to work independently to ensure that time sensitive projects are completed. Knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite, online permitting software, as well as knowledge of town government operations is required. Must have the ability to plan and prioritize work while multitasking. This is a public facing position, and strong customer service skills will be crucial for the success of the position, and the department.
