Infection Preventionist LVN

The Infection Preventionist (IP) is responsible for the facility infection prevention and control program (IPCP) which is designed to provide a safe, sanitary and comfortable environment , and to help prevent development and transmission of communicable diseases and infections.

Under limited supervision, the Infection Preventionist reports to the Director of Nursing (or Health Services Administrator) and partners with the Medical Director for Antimicrobial Stewardship, and other stakeholders to develop a system of care that promotes sound and scientific infection prevention principles and practices.

Shift: Fulltime- Monday- Friday 8AM- 4PM 

Pay: $33-37

Work Duties

  • The primary duty of the IP is to plan, organize, develop, coordinate, and direct the infection prevention and control program and its activities in accordance with current federal, state, and local standards, guidelines, and regulations that govern such programs.
  • Collaborate with Facility Leadership and the Medical Director to develop, implement and evaluate annual infection prevention goals and action
  • Foster effective working relationships and consensus building.
  • Partner with facility leaders, physicians, and local state and national agencies on activities related to infection prevention.
  • Conduct outbreak investigations
  • Interpret laboratory and diagnostic tests, differentiate between colonization and infection.
  • Differentiate between prophylactic, empiric and therapeutic uses of antibiotics.
  • Maintain a system of reporting possible incidents of communicable diseases to local, state, or national agencies as required.
  • Oversee the antibiotic stewardship program and monitor resident antibiotic use.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to work with computers
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Maintain appropriate level of confidentiality and privacy
  • Interact professionally with all customers, including ill, older adults, disabled persons and co-workers, individually and as a part of a team

Experience/Training:

  • Clinical observation and assessment skills
  • Proficient computer skills necessary to complete documentation, review electronic health records and communicate with team members.
  • Minimum of two years of nursing experience or one year as a nursing supervisor
  • Skilled Nursing or Senior Care experience

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

  • Current LPN/LVN or RN license in Applicable State
  • Current CPR certification
