Cohen Children's Medical Center opened in 1983 as the New York metropolitan area's only hospital designed exclusively for children. Today, it is the largest pediatric teaching hospital in the region, with over 750,000 visits annually and serving 1.8 million children in Brooklyn, Queens, Nassau, and Suffolk counties. It is the tertiary pediatric medical center of the Northwell Health System and the only Level-1 Pediatric Trauma Center on Long Island. An active Pediatric Kidney Transplant program is in place, and there is a deep commitment at every level of the Northwell Leadership to the Heart Transplant programmatic build with live transplantation planning underway. Cohen Children's Medical Center is among the top-rated children's hospitals in New York State and has received the highest ranking in New York for pediatric nephrology, urology, pulmonology and lung surgery, and are nationally ranked for superior care in a total of eight specialties, including Diabetes and Endocrinology, according to US News & World Report's Best Children's Hospitals.
