Duties include but are not limited to:
Conduct a comprehensive appraisal of patients' health status by taking health histories and performing physical examinations on inpatients and outpatients.
Provide ongoing outpatient care and management of health problems.
Provide specialty care to orthopedic surgical patients in any hospital settings, including outpatient, inpatient, emergency department and operating room.
Order and follow-up on appropriate tests, x-rays, EKGs and other studies as indicated.
Request clinical and non-clinical consultations.
Dictate/write appropriate interim summaries in the patient's medical record(s).
Teach and counsel patients and their families in preventive care, medical conditions, plans of care, prescribed medications, and follow-up.
Prescribe medication or orders per protocol
Develop medical diagnostic plans and implement treatment plans.
Act as an orthopedic consultant to other disciplines in areas of clinical expertise.
Perform E-consults and triage of new patients.
May function as first-assist person during surgeries if clinic is able to support.
Provide back-up service for call needs.
Under the guidance or direct supervision of a supervising physician or surgeon, perform any procedures and/or techniques acceptable under the scope of practice for a physician assistant (such as, but not limited to, local anesthesia blocks, care of simple strains and sprains, reduction of simple dislocations, injections in major joints and soft tissue areas, arthrocentesis, care and casting of simple fractures)
Participate in quality improvement projects, extra-curriculum activities and research projects
Preferred Experience:
A current certificate of added qualifications in Orthopedic Surgery administered by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) is a preferred requirement to perform the above listed procedures under a minimal supervisory capacity

Monday-Friday 6:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. (40-hour week)
