About this role

Acts as a business improvement agent for the function by being responsible for the development of an effective HSS strategy that addresses fatal and catastrophic risks and progresses Newmont Legacy Sites’ Journey to Zero Harm.
Leads and supports all Site entities and facilities in the execution of the Global HSS Strategy. Develops and implements HSS strategy, policy, and standards across the portfolio to ensure compliance with applicable regulatory and Newmont standards.

Your role will consist of

Global Strategy and Objectives

  • As a core member of the functional leadership team, actively contribute to the development of the strategy and objectives.
  • Actively participate in Sites activities including workshops, meetings, auditing, and governance programs.
  • Provide HSS support to other Legacy Sites functions such as incident investigation, auditing, and risk analysis.

Strategy, Objectives, and Performance

  • In support of the strategy, develop and implement HSS strategy, programs, and initiatives to operate safely throughout the portfolio and continually improve HSS performance.
  • Partner with Legacy Sites health and safety resources to develop and implement the HSS strategy, programs, and objectives.
  • Compile and report HSS performance data for the function.
  • Implementation of Systems, Programs, and Initiatives
  • Lead and facilitate the implementation of risk management programs, including appropriate employee training, at all the operations.
  • Lead and assist event investigations.
  • Develop and maintain corrective action, supervisor compliance, and SOP registers at Sites.
  • Conduct audit and verification activities at Canada Legacy Sites operations.
  • Actively engage with Sites contractors and consultants to communicate Newmont HSS expectations and policies, and understand project-specific challenges and risk management requirements.
  • Provide leadership, support, and training to ensure that contractor management at Canada Legacy Sites aligns with Newmont HSS programs and practices.
  • Assist Canada leadership team with preparation, execution, and regular training and testing of the Rapid Response and emergency management systems.
  • Participate in initial emergency preparedness and plan preparation at Canada Sites.
  • Coaching and Mentoring
  • Deliver HSS coaching and mentoring to the leadership teams and field personnel.
  • Participate in the selection process for the personnel.

Your training, skills, and experience checklist

Knowledge:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in occupational H&S or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Knowledge of industry-recognized H&S systems.
  • Knowledge of occupational safety and health regulatory framework and processes in areas where Legacy Sites operates.
  • Extensive knowledge of construction, demolition, and site remediation project management and safety processes.

Experience:

  • Minimum 5 years of relevant H&S experience.
  • Mining, construction, utilities, or other heavy confirmed experience is helpful.
  • Validated experience in the successful implementation of HSS systems, programs, and initiatives across a broad and diverse working environment.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Shown strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must have the ability to efficiently apply Microsoft Word and Excel applications.
  • Strong PC skills using MS office software.
  • Proven use of proactive and problem-solving techniques.
  • Ability to work in high-stress, diverse environments and utmost field conditions.
  • Able to acquire visas in countries where Newmont is or may be working.
  • Proven track record of leadership and communication skills.
  • Planning, organizational, and time leadership skills.
  • Applied expertise in risk management applications and Incident investigation methodologies
  • Applied skills in causal assessment and analysis.
  • Validated use of initiative and problem solving techniques.
  • Ability to work with diverse cultures.
  • A validated understanding of multiple languages is considered an advantage.
Working conditions and location
  • The position is located in Elko, NV.
  • Desirable to travel extensively and at times to utmost field locations and conditions, both domestically and internationally.

The salary range offered for this role is USD $90,720 to 107,730. The salary range is tied to the Colorado market for jobs performed in Colorado. The salary offer to the successful candidate will be based on job-related education, training, and/or experience.  The salary offer will not be based on a candidate’s salary history at other jobs, and by law, Newmont will not seek information about salary history, and candidates should not share such information with Newmont.  


This role will be eligible for participation in a discretionary annual bonus program, pursuant to which an employee may be awarded a percentage of their salary based on the company’s performance and their own individual performance.
