The Role:
Moderna is in search of a Principal Analyst, State Tax to become an essential part of our Tax team in Cambridge, MA. This role represents a unique chance to contribute significantly to Moderna's Tax team, aiding a rapidly growing company that's at the forefront of transforming the biotech industry. As part of the Global Tax Governance team, you'll play a pivotal role in US state tax provision and compliance for direct and indirect taxes. Based in our headquarters in Cambridge, this role blends on-site collaboration (70% of the time) with the flexibility of remote work, emphasizing our dynamic and innovative work environment.

In this critical role, the Principal Analyst, State Tax, will not only ensure Moderna's compliance with State tax regulations but also drive strategic tax planning to support the company's global mission. This position is designed for a tax professional eager to tackle challenges, drive innovation, and contribute to a high-growth, transformative company at the cutting edge of the biotech industry.

Heres What Youll Do:

Tax Accruals: Assist with the preparation and/or review of quarterly and annual state tax provisions for US filing requirements, return to provision calculations and explanations, and tax account reconciliations. This task requires an act with urgency approach, ensuring Moderna's global compliance and financial health.

U.S. State Tax Compliance Support: Aid in the preparation of crucial tax calculations with supporting documentation, embodying the obsess over learning mindset to navigate the complexities of tax reforms and international compliance. Participate in the preparation of Corporate, Partnership, Gross Receipts, Property, Sales and Use Tax returns. Oversight and training of exemption process and develop relationships with key stakeholders. Assist with product launches in different jurisdictions for state tax registrations.

Embrace Technology: Participate in implementations, enhancements, and process improvements to digitize everywhere.

Audit Support and Response: Provide support for U.S. state tax audits, preparing responses to tax notices with a remove viscosity mindset to facilitate smooth internal and external communication.

Special Projects and Analysis: Engage in special projects and ad-hoc analyses such as the State Research and Development tax credit studies, State tax incentives, perform research and modelling, showcasing the behave like owners ethos by taking initiative in projects that advance departmental and company goals.

Heres What Youll Need:

Bachelor's degree or higher in one of the following (Accounting, Finance, Business, Economics, Taxation, or a related field)

5+ years of State tax experience at Big 4 public accounting firm or multi-national company

Heres What Youll Bring to the Table:

Bachelors in Accounting and/or Masters in Tax and experience in biopharma or life sciences industries

Ability to operate in a fast paced, ever-changing environment, excellent prioritization skills

Strong organizational skills, able to multitask and meet ambitious deadlines

Strong written and verbal communication/presentation skills

Self-motivated and ability to collaborate with a global team

Excellent MS excel skills and experience with large data sets

Empathetic and respectful interpersonal skills

SAP and Vertex experience, big plus

High ethical standards, integrity and strength of character in their personal and professional dealings and a willingness to act on and be accountable for their decisions
