The position is that of senior social worker, and admissions coordinator, for the Women Trauma Recovery Program (WTRP) at the Menlo Park Division of VA Palo Alto Health Care System. The incumbent works in the women's residential program and the PTSD Intensive Outpatient Program. The incumbent can make complex and independent clinical judgments as demonstrated by at least two years of specialized social work practice.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF ASSIGNED DUTIES:
Coordinates referral and screening processes for Veterans seeking intensive PTSD treatment to the Women's TRP. Interacts routinely with active duty service members, Veterans, family members, and significant others, and referral sources to ensure a timely and appropriate referral and notification process.
Performs specialized assessment, case management, treatment, and discharge planning for program clientele with PTSD and related comorbidities.
Provides individual, group, and/or family psychotherapy (which includes evidence-based interventions) and advanced-level case management interventions.
Documents independently, in a timely, comprehensive, and professional manner, in the client's medical record.
Administratively responsible for the development and implementation of methods for measuring the effectiveness of social work practice and services in PTSD (which may include admission coordination and evaluation, Northeast Program Evaluation Program data collection, monitoring, and coordination).
Offers consultation to colleagues and students on biopsychosocial assessment and treatment of clients with PTSD and related comorbidities, rendering professional opinions based on experience and expertise, and role models effective social work practice skills.
Demonstrates the ability to teach and mentor staff and students in the special area of practice and to provide supervision for licensure or specialty certifications.
The Senior Social Worker has the ability to provide independent and expert clinical psychosocial and case management services in a specialized area of practice (Mental Health, Trauma Recovery ) to Veterans who tend to have serious and severe crises, may lack any familial and community support, maybe poor self-monitors, may frequently fail to comply with instructions and treatment, or may have major deficits in coping skills and require continuing professional psychological support.
In the event of a medical or psychiatric emergency, staff will follow the protocol of the program at this VA facility.
Senior social workers must be licensed or certified by a state at the advanced practice level which includes an advanced generalist or clinical examination unless they are grandfathered by the state in which they are licensed to practice at the advanced practice level (except for licenses issued in California, which administers its own clinical examination for advanced practice) and they must be able to provide supervision for licensure.

Competitive salary and regular salary increases.

When setting pay, a higher step rate of the appropriate grade may be determined after consideration of higher or unique qualifications, or special needs of the VA (Above Minimum Rate of the Grade).


Paid Time Off:
37-50 days of annual paid time offer per year (13-26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year)

Selected applicants may qualify for credit toward annual leave accrual, based on prior [work experience] or military service experience.


Parental Leave:
After 12 months of employment, up to 12 weeks of paid parental leave in connection with the birth, adoption, or foster care placement of a child.


Child Care Subsidy:
After 60 days of employment, full-time employees with a total family income below $144,000 may be eligible for a childcare subsidy of up to 25% of total eligible childcare costs for eligible children up to the monthly maximum of $416.66
