About Good Work Austin

Good Work Austin (GWA) envisions a healthier Austin connected and uplifted by the local food and beverage community. To achieve that vision, GWA partners with local food and beverage business owners and their teams to create a stronger community through advocacy for more equitable hospitality industry practices, ongoing training and workforce education. GWA is a 501(c)3 with over 180 restaurant members that participate regularly in GWA's trainings, networking meetings, and/or meal distributions.

Culinary Workforce Training Program

GWA's culinary workforce training program provides a paid learning opportunity for community members with barriers to work. Throughout the program students will learn skills necessary for success in the hospitality industry but that will also transfer to other industries. The program will also produce healthy food for communities experiencing food insecurity.

Trainees that successfully complete the program will have interviews with Good Work Austin-affiliated businesses that guarantee living wages, offer access to health benefits, mental health care, and provide their teams with diversity training and sexual harassment prevention training. By adding new employees to the workforce, GWA will begin to address some of the hiring difficulties that independent restaurants have faced since reopening after the COVID-19 shutdown.

The Culinary Instructor will lead the program's day-to-day operations, and provide a safe and constructive learning environment for the students.
