Custodian

Facilities Department, University of Charleston

Job Summary:

The University of Charleston is looking for a responsible Custodian to maintain our facilities. We take pride in the external and internal appearance of the campus, so it is important for a Custodian to be careful and thorough in working, cleaning, and tidying the premises. The ideal candidate will have great physical endurance to cover a large space and also a keen eye for detail and attentiveness. Overtime work is mandatory at times to keep up with the activities and events on campus.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Including but not limited to cleaning, dusting, mopping, vacuuming carpet, cleaning restrooms, trash removal, window cleaning, and ensuring proper sanitation
Care for building interiors, stairwells, and entrances
Perform basic grounds work
Attention to detail and carefulness
Work with automated equipment
Operate an automobile on and off campus
Capable of lifting 40 pounds
Half-day Saturday schedule rotation
Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

High School diploma or GED is preferred but not required
A skill in floor maintenance (stripping and waxing) is a plus
Ability to prioritize and organize effectively
Ability to communicate effectively with the manager and associates
Ability to work independently with little supervision
Knowledge of general office procedures
Flexible, resourceful, willing to learn\cross-train
Good attendance is required
Must be a team player
