Job Summary: The Research Technician uses fundamental concepts, practices, and procedures of a particular field of specialization to perform varied scientific research tasks of moderate complexity requiring application and adaptation of established techniques, procedures, and criteria.
Required Minimum Qualifications: High school diploma or GED and four (4) years of research support experience; OR associate's degree and two (2) years of research support experience; OR bachelor's degree and some research support experience.
Skills and Knowledge: Familiarity with the growth, husbandry, microscopic, and genetic analysis of the nematode model system, Caenorhabditis elegans. Ability to work independently and collaboratively with other lab personnel (PI, graduate and undergraduate students, etc.). Ability to work in an environment that sometimes requires performing physically taxing duties such as sitting at a microscope for extended periods.
This job involves frequent exposure to chemicals, bacteria, and other hazards including glass test tubes, heat sources, electrical equipment and other instruments requiring careful use.
Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor's degree or higher in biology or microbiology and two (2) years of research experience in a biological or microbiological setting, utilizing microbiological techniques and applications. One (1) year of experience with C. elegans neurobehavioral and neurodegeneration analysis. Expertise with bioinformatic analysis of genetic data.
