Taft is seeking an Intellectual Property ("IP") Docket Specialist to join our Chicago, Cleveland, Indianapolis or Minneapolis Office.

We are seeking a IP Docket Specialist with 7+ years of experience to support our IP Docketing Team in our Chicago, Cleveland, Indianapolis or Minneapolis office. IP Docket Specialists serve clients by providing support to attorneys and IP team members. All Taft employees operate under a "Client First" philosophy-in all things, we seek to provide exceptional services to our clients.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate all aspects of IP docketing for U.S. and international IP portfolios with a focus on all matters related to trademarks, patents, and domain names.
  • Prepare and distribute docket reports as requested by attorneys and legal teams to ensure that all deadlines are met. Maintain direct contact with internal clients to ensure daily docket deadlines are satisfied.
  • Preserve and audit the docket database, including entering, clearing and updating filing due dates and reminders.
  • Maintain a thorough knowledge of the docket database to create specialized reports and make appropriate changes as necessary.
  • Assist with intake and auditing of all Intellectual Property transferred files.
  • Coordinate client communications and the integrity of electronic case records.
  • Maintain knowledge of trends, developments, and legislative rulings impacting all IP procedures and regulations.
  • Communicate with USPTO or relevant trademark jurisdiction to confirm deadlines.
  • Identify policies and procedures that can be improved and suggest operational enhancements of the Docket Department.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Understands and has substantial experience with trademark clearance, prosecution, renewal and enforcement processes.
  • Advanced knowledge of docketing software (e.g., Pattsy, CPI, Foundation IP, Anaqua).
  • Knowledge of federal, state and local intellectual property laws and regulations.
  • Knowledge of U.S. Patent terminology, prosecution procedures, and deadlines for both US and foreign intellectual property matters.
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Word).
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Strong problem solving skills.
  • Ability to work under tight deadlines and prioritize responsibilities.
  • Ability to work independently and under own direction and initiative.
  • Ability to handle and maintain confidential information.

Qualifications:

  • Some education beyond high school required; Bachelor's Degree strongly preferred.
  • At least seven (7) years of related work experience.
