Functions independently as the clinical expert in the processes used for all critical, semi-critical, and non-critical Reusable Medical Devices (RMD) per manufacturers' instructions for use (IFU) throughout the facility.

Provides oversight in the development, implementation, coordination, maintenance, and evaluation of critical and semi-critical medical devices within the Reusable Medical Devices (RMD) Program.

Controls the release of any new equipment until verification of all standards operating procedures (SOPs) have been developed and communicated to staff.

Monitors, analyzes, and provides consultation on infection control issues regarding RMD.

Participates in clinical rounds to assist in the need and verification of each service's SOPs for RMD

The RMD Coordinator is responsible for the quality management, reprocessing activities pertaining to training, competency assessment, development of SOPs based on manufacturers' IFU, and aiding in succession planning for all areas of RMD for the AMAVAHCS.

Functions as a liaison between clinical programs and non-clinical services which require the use of RMD (i.e., directives, findings, action plans, changes in manufacturers' IFU, etc.).

Functions independently as a clinical consultative resource for all patient care areas to assure that all RMD is properly stored, used, and pre- treated according to clinical guidelines and reprocessed properly according to established scientific principles.
Collaborates with leadership and unit managers to identify educational training needs for staff, while supporting activities that foster competence, critical thinking, and decision making. Provides consultation and collaboration through the participation within organizational committees.

Performs learning needs assessments, develops educational trainings for RMD End User's within the organization. Assists with the orientation of new employees within the realm of RMD.
Utilizes Censis for conducting monthly and quarterly audits related to reprocessing of sterilized instrumentation with the ability to analyze, interpret, and evaluate data to determine outcomes and changes related to educational programs.

Reviews and tracks required critical water testing results for reporting purposes.

Functions as the represents SPS and RMD on Environment of Care (EOC) Rounds.

Facilitates VI 7 OSP Audit Tools for facility led inspections. Submits findings to SPS Chief and VI 7.
Functions as the submitter for Amarillo facility OSP SPAT data.
Activities include serving as co-chair and conducting the RMD Committee which reports to the Patient Care Board Committee, conducting RMD tracers in all areas of the facility that use RMD, facilitating review/revision of all RME SOPs, developing and applying audit tools and other mechanisms to validate compliance with internal and external RMD policies and requirements, monitoring adherence to training and competency requirements and related documentation, presenting and/or facilitating formal staff education programs and informal training related to RMD compliance, critically reviewing local RME SOPs for consistency with manufacturers' guidelines or Veterans Affairs (VA) guidance. Participates in facility or Veterans Integrated Systems Network (VISN) task forces related to RMD and IP. Participates in Environment of Care Rounds for the AMAVAHCS.
