This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. The incumbent functions primarily in the Pain Clinic within the Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Service. In this environment, incumbent will be a member of interdisciplinary treatment teams with responsibility for assessment, psychotherapeutic intervention, case management, training and education, and administration. However, incumbent may be assigned additional responsibilities in other locations as directed by the Psychology Executive.
Functions:
- Performs evaluations of patients in the Pain Clinic. This may include assessment of pain, intellectual/cognitive functioning, emotional adjustment, severe mental illness, personality issues, suicide issues, and level of care/placement needs.
- A range of assessment techniques may be employed including record review, interview, rating scales, questionnaires, standardized tests, behavioral observation, and consultation with other disciplines.
- Provides a full range of therapeutic interventions for patients including individual and group evidenced-based therapy, supportive therapy, psycho-education, family counseling, and behavioral management.
- Responds to consults within the time limits specified by Psychology Service and Medical Center policies.
- Develops and maintains a reasonable caseload of patients.
- Complies with national and local performance measures, including timely health care screening and completion of clinical reminders for all patients.
- Looks for innovative ways to increase psychology services to the medical center.
- Serves as a member of standing or ad hoc committees as the need or opportunity arises.
- Maintains/submits required documentation in a timely, complete and accurate manner in accordance with Psychology Service and Medical Center policies and procedures, without inaccuracies and/or tardiness.
- Develops written procedures as requested to facilitate the timely and efficient delivery of psychological services in Pain Management Clinic.
- May assist in the execution of ongoing program evaluation and data driven quality improvement projects to monitor the effectiveness of the clinical program.
- Completes mandatory VA training requirements in a timely fashion. Attends psychology-related training to maintain expertise in assigned work area.
- Attends Psychology staff meetings, Medical staff meetings, and Mental Health Service staff meetings. Complies with Psychology pertinence review procedures as well as credentialing and privileging procedures.
Work Schedule: Monday thru Friday 8:00 AM to 4:30 Pm

Pay: Competitive salary and regular salary increases When setting pay, a higher step rate of the appropriate grade may be determined after consideration of existing pay, higher or unique qualifications, or special needs of the VA (Above Minimum Rate of the Grade).
Paid Time Off: 37-50 days of annual paid time offer per year (13-26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year)
Selected applicants may qualify for credit toward annual leave accrual, based on prior [work experience] or military service experience.
Parental Leave: After 12 months of employment, up to 12 weeks of paid parental leave in connection with the birth, adoption, or foster care placement of a child.
Child Care Subsidy: After 60 days of employment, full time employees with a total family income below $144,000 may be eligible for a childcare subsidy up to 25% of total eligible childcare costs for eligible children up to the monthly maximum of $416.66.
Retirement: Traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% in contributions by VA
