The Controller oversees budget, accounts payable and receivable, student financial services, tax reporting, it also provides a strong leadership, effectively supervising staff and developing a high-performance team.AGM University serves a diverse student population, offering bilingual education to the community for traditional and non-traditional students.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSAccountable for the institution’s accounting records and overall financial reporting, including establishing sound and practical internal controls, to ensure and monitor compliance with applicable state and federal laws, rules, regulations and/or policies.Administer, plan, develop, implement, evaluate, and supervise the functions of all the components of the Vice-presidency for Financial Affairs: accounting, disbursements, collections, student financial services, and operating budget.In charge of coordinating and carrying out the preparation and completion of the institution’s financial statements annual audit and OMB Uniform Guidance report (formerly Circular A-133 report) ensuring compliance with U.S. GAAP and with the OMB Uniform Guidance audit requirementsResponsible for coordinating and carrying out the preparation and completion of the institution’s financial statements on a monthly (for internal use) and quarterly (for financial institutions) basis. In charge of ensuring the institution can meet its financial commitments and manage short- and long-term liquidity needs. Direct and manage the institution’s annual form 990 preparation processes and corresponding submission to the IRS.Identify potential opportunities for improved efficiency and/or strengthened financial controls and assist the Executive Director to implement corrective processes and procedures, as needed.Manages the development process for the annual operating budget and forecasts and identify actual deviances from the budget and reports significant issues.Collaborates with the Executive Director to ensure budget processes, resources allocation, and financial decisions align with strategic goals and objectives based on assessment results, program reviews, enrollment objectives, and institutional research, among other information sources.Act as liaison with external agencies and licensing bodies (Middle States Commission on Higher Education and Florida Commission for Independent Education). Ensure appropriate response and follow up to any issues noted by external or internal auditors.Provides financial analysis, with emphasis on pricing decisions and contract negotiations.Responsible for monitoring the institution’s compliance with requirements established by any federal, state or private entity regarding the use of funds provided by them.Provide overall guidance in fiscal matters to the President and to the Vice-President for Financial Affairs relating to the operation of the institution.Provide support to the Vice-President for Financial Affairs in his role as liaison to the Board of Directors. REQUIREMENTSBachelor’s degree in accounting or related field required, master’s preferred.Certified Public Accountant (CPA) License required.Minimum ten (10) years of progressive accounting experience, including (5) years of supervisory experience within a higher education setting, preferably in non-profit environment. Ability to express himself/herself effectively, verbally and in writing, in Spanish and English.Knowledge of tax laws and regulations as well as laws and government regulations, executive orders, agency rules, etc. pertaining to financial transactionsExceptional problem solving and analytical skills.Proficiency in Microsoft office suite, with demonstrated advanced skills in MS Excel.Ability to set and meet appropriate deadlines and effectively lead and manage a team.A high degree of confidentiality and professionalism.Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while achieving goals and objectives.Ability to review situations, products and services and determine appropriate solutions or course of action.Ability to analyze circumstances and identify appropriate alternatives.Knowledge of academic standards and accreditation requirements.Excellent interpersonal, organizational skills and a commitment to outstanding services in all areas.
