BACKGROUND: The International Rescue Committee (IRC) responds to the worldâs worst humanitarian crises and helps people to survive and rebuild their lives. At work in over 40 countries and 24 U.S. cities to restore safety, dignity and hope, the IRC leads the way from harm to home. The IRC in Atlanta office was established in 1979 and has resettled over 30,000 refugees from 67 countries into the Greater Atlanta area. As the largest refugee resettlement agency in Georgia, the IRC in Atlanta resettles an average of 1,000 refugees into Georgia annually and provides additional services and assistance to another 2,500 refugees and asylees. 

SCOPE OF CAREER DEVELOPMENT INTERN WORK: The Career Development intern reports directly to the Career Development Supervisor and supports efforts under IRCâs Career Development program. Career Development, a program within the Economic Empowerment Department, focuses on assisting clients to advance beyond entry-level jobs to skilled career pathways after resettlement. Specifically, the Career Development program provides career counseling, enrollment in post-secondary and recertification programs, and advanced job placement. Please note that all internship positions are unpaid. â¯Accepting Atlanta-based candidates only. 

RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  •  Assist refugee and immigrant clients individually and in group sessions to develop a career pathway and career advancement goals
  • Work one-on-one with clients to help them develop and revise resumes and LinkedIn profiles
  • Assist clients with enrollment in post-secondary training and certification programs 
  • Research potential industries, employers, training programs, and trends in Atlanta workforce
  • Prepare clients for job interviews
  • Accompany refugee clients for job interviews and employment orientations
  • Provide general administrative support and maintain accurate records of Career Development program activities
  • Propose and develop other support services that serve the program goals and clientâs needs
  • Submit intern hours on volunteer dashboard   
  • Other duties as assigned 
Minimum Qualifications:

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Strong interest in working with international clients
  • Proficiency with resume writing, LinkedIn and employment related activities 
  • Proven ability to work with consideration and respect for cross-cultural differences
  • Excellent communication and organization skills
  • Ability to work independently
  • Computer skills, including Microsoft Office programs and internet research
  • Enthusiasm for helping people to learn and demonstrated professionalism
  • Must have a valid driverâs license and access to an insured vehicle 

REQUIREMENTS:  

  • Must submit intern hours on volunteer portal. 
  • Must pass a background check. 
  • Commitment of 15 hours per week for a minimum of 3 consecutive months. 
  • Must be at least 18 years old. 

This will be a hybrid role. This position will report to the Career Development Supervisor.
