NextDecade Corporation is an energy company accelerating the path to a net-zero future and leading innovation in more sustainable LNG and carbon capture solutions. NextDecade is committed to providing the world access to cleaner energy. Through our wholly owned subsidiaries Rio Grande LNG (RGLNG), and NEXT Carbon Solutions, we are developing a 27 MTPA LNG export facility in South Texas along with one of the largest carbon capture and storage projects in North America. By combining emissions reduction associated with our carbon capture and storage project, responsibly sourced gas, and our pledge to use net-zero electricity, Rio Grande LNG is expected to produce a lower carbon intensive LNG for the world.
JOB SUMMARY
The Process Engineer ensures that the proper process design is employed for the engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning, and startup of NextDecade projects. This position is crucial in overseeing the EPC contractor's activities across multiple projects. Responsibilities include ensuring the development of comprehensive and safe process scopes, validating the suitability of process design deliverables, and overseeing the safe and efficient completion and execution of commissioning and startup plans.
*This role requires mobilization to our site in Brownsville, TX.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Key member of the process engineering team which leads the interface across all engineering disciplines to ensure the design intent of the process and supporting utilities are met. QA/QC review of all applicable calculations by EPC contractor and provide comments and guidance as appropriate. Validate content of drawings and specifications from EPC contractor to ensure that they meet the Scope of Work and Basis of Design Write new Owner process equipment and piping specifications, develop new details, as required for project. Analyze process systems and develop methods for de-bottlenecking. Prepare technical documents (P&ID's, PFD's) for Hazards Analysis and lead HAZOPs and other formal safety reviews. Generate control philosophies and sequence of operations for processes. Review Designer's quality on RFI answers, and submittal review Write studies and reports for process systems on projects. Perform economic evaluations for processes. Perform front-end loading of process systems. Review and monitor process design and engineering of LNG liquefaction plant Coordinate process technology licensor activities Provide timely review of Contractor process engineering deliverables including PFD, PID, HMB, Datasheets, equipment sizing, DPDT, hydraulic calculations, Process descriptions etc. Supports risk management activities such as LOPA and HAZOP Provide support to operations readiness, commissioning and start-up activities Resolve process engineering issues with EPC contractor, consultants, operations, maintenance and others including responses to FERCMinimum Qualifications:
Bachelors Degree in Chemical Engineering 5+ years experience in similar positions on large capital development projects 3+ years experience in LNG projects including at least 3 years in the execution phase, from detailed design through startup Has a thorough and in-depth understanding of APCI liquefaction process. Knowledge of applicable process specifications and requirements. Strong Knowledge of major regulations and industry codes and standards affecting standard design, quality, or processes. Experience with process simulation programs such as HYSYS, Unisim, PRO II, ProMax etc. required with demonstrated real world model validation and application. Experience with specialized engineering hydraulic programs such as Flare System Analyzer (Flarenet), PIPENET, AFT Fathom, VMGSim, etc. to interpret or complete calculations. Development and review of process deliverables such as Design Basis, PFD, PID, LDT, HMB, Datasheets, equipment sizing and calculations, DPDT analyzing and determining equipment and piping systems design conditions, and functional descriptions. Hydraulic calculation development and review for pumps, compressors, control valves, and line sizing including complex configurations. Flare system design that includes development from scratch of flare network, configuration, and sizing. Depressuring, relief valve sizing / scenario documentation, flare system analysis and final reporting, including the sizing of the relief valve inlet and outlet line sizing. Technical Lists development and review such as battery limit table, equipment list, PSV list, Specialty Piping (SP) Items list. Vendor print review execution - commenting on deviations from a set of technical design criteria provided to a vendor. Uses 3D model software such as SmartPlant Review or Navisworks to review the physical design of a plant. Deep understanding and knowledge of process chemistry and engineering. Broad based knowledge and experience in chemical process and unit operations. Understanding of chemical process control and safety system design, including Safety Case. May require travelling for meetings and/or training. Able to mobilize to Brownsville, TX. For temporary assignments. Computer literate including proficient with Microsoft Office Suite.Preferred Qualifications:
Master's Degree in Chemical Engineering 7+ years experience in similar positions on large capital development projects 5+ years experience in LNG projects including at least 5 years in execution phase, from detailed design through startup Licensed Professional Engineer in the State of Texas Rapid problem solving together with the ability to multitask. Effective communication skills with all levels of an organization with clarity in expectations, requirements, and deliverables. Excellent analytical and reporting skills Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adaptability to manage changes in work environment in regards adhering to updated deadlines or unexpected delays.Work Environment & Physical Demands with or without reasonable accommodations
Operates in a complex construction environment. Work is performed both in controlled room environment and in the field in sometimes challenging weather conditions for extended periods of time. Must be able to wear all mandatory/necessary PPE equipment to perform job functions. Ability to move throughout all areas of the facility, including being physically capable of traveling to a designed muster point during emergency situations.
