Job Summary

The primary role of a Personal Advisor is to develop and manage on-going client relationships and provide personal financial strategies to accomplish the goals and objectives of high value participants (HVPs) as well as sell GuideStone's investment and advisory products. Position will team closely with the rest of the department, Relationship Management and Customer Solutions to communicate and deliver these services to GuideStone clients and prospects. Goals will include growth and retention of GuideStone Personal Advisory Services (GPAS) clients, retention of a book of business, measurement of client development/engagement, self-generated sales (including referrals to Sales Team), and successful sales completion/advice delivery to our mid-level asset value participants (MVPs). This position will support the work of the department by providing strategies and services in a manner that increases the perceived value of GuideStone as the premier provider of financial strategies and solutions to those we serve.

What You'll Do

  • Build long-term relationships with clients to build rapport, deliver value proposition, provide investment advice and develop goals-based financial plans.
  • Investment Advice - Assess and determine a client's ability and willingness to assume risk. Utilize this risk to guide the recommended investment allocation that will meet the client's risk and investment preferences.
  • Financial Planning - Obtain and analyze holistic information to create a financial plan providing actionable steps for the client as well as developing a framework for future plan updates. Deliver action steps so that the client can become better equipped to meet goals. Follow up to assist client in taking action and periodic plan updates. Conduct phone, virtual or in-person meetings with clients to determine if developed plan is meeting their needs or if further customization is needed to create the best solution.
  • Discuss the features of GPAS and GPS (point-in-time advice) in helping the client choose which services will meet their needs and preferences.
  • Discuss available GuideStone retirement/investment products to support client's goals and preferences for how GuideStone may support their financial needs. Identify consolidation and cross-sell opportunities.
  • Serve as primary advisor for GPAS clients.
  • Ongoing customer service - Assist in ongoing client segmentation and profitable delivery of products and services by understanding value to and value from our clients, increasingly delivering value to clients and serving in a way that delivers value to GuideStone. Handle customer inquiries and problems, working to effective resolution in a way that strengthens the relationship.
  • Product/Industry Knowledge - Sustain strong product knowledge of all GuideStone retirement/investment products and advice tools necessary to plan, recommend, and deliver customized solutions to meet client's financial goals and objectives. Stay up to date on industry issues and use that information to serve clients.
  • Participate in and comply with all required firm and regulatory elements of the firm's continuing education plan including the annual compliance meeting.
  • Does not directly supervise any positions; occasionally delegates administrative tasks to support staff and/or rollover specialists. Also, works with rollover specialists to grow and retain assets.

What You'll Need

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Advanced degree such as an MBA or Masters helpful.
  • Travel up to 20% annually.
  • Securities 6, 63 and 65 licenses (or equivalents)
  • CFP, CEBS or related certifications, preferred.
  • Proficient PC skills in MS Office and appropriate GuideStone system applications.
  • Membership in a Southern Baptist Church strongly preferred. Must be sensitive to the ministry and the clients we serve.
  • Must be a team player, working effectively with others.
  • Strong relationship management and effective listening skills with ability to identify client needs and match delivery services to perceived client value.
  • Minimum of 3 years of relationship management or other financial services experience recommended.
  • In depth knowledge of church retirement and benefits plans.
  • Expertise in ministers' tax issues and rules related to various savings plans/arrangements is essential.
  • Sound working knowledge around the use of non-qualified deferred compensation plans within total compensation/benefit package.
  • Effective communication skills (i.e., ability to communicate with a diverse audience whose comprehension of financial, tax and legal matters related to investments, retirement and executive benefits planning vary widely). Also, includes keeping team members appraised on work and shared clients' needs.
  • Ability to keep CRM input update to date and utilize reporting functionality.
  • Self-directed with ability to multi-task with minimal supervision.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Understand and be sensitive to client base (Southern Baptists and evangelical/nonprofit community).
  • Must have complete confidentiality regarding GuideStone business matters, both internal and client.
