About the role:

The failure analysis engineer reviews data and failed parts from dealers to investigate the root cause of failure.  This is completed through the review of dealer claims, use of test stands, prototype trucks, and failure analysis equipment.  The detailed report of the evaluations will be distributed to the the appropriate departments using strong written and verbal communication skills to effectively manage warranty cost and improve product quality. 

What you will do:

Responsible for performing root cause analysis on failed products, identify customer vs. process defects and provide detailed failure analysis report for product warranty.  Correctly identify type of wear and fractures, crack initiation sites, stress raisers, temperature, loading, abuse, supplier identification, and evidence of previous repair.  Maintain and update all history of failure analysis reports. Inspection reports are kept electronically and in paper files. Digital photos are kept electronically.  Actively participates in continuous improvement activities and generates defect reduction ideas.Supports other cross-functional teams within the product services group with failure analysis request.  Per service engineering request, troubleshoots and diagnoses complex problems; explain findings and possible countermeasure.

In office Monday-Friday 7:00-4:00

What you need to have:

Bachelor's degreeCertification from an accredited school and/or a minimum of 3 years of experience with two ASEs7+ years as a mechanic and/or field technicianMicrosoft office applications. Strong written and verbal technical communication skills.Technical reading aptitude (i.e. parts & service manuals, schematics, diagnostic software)Ability to work independently with minimum supervision. Ability to work effectively within a cross-functional team environmentUnderstand and follow all safety & environmental procedures and requirementsStrong mechanical aptitude. Hydraulics and Electric troubleshooting experience. Basic understanding of metallurgyAbility to train Jr. Level staff and technicians in F/A techniques and processes

What would be nice to have:

10+ years as a mechanic and/or field technicianExperience with diesel electronic control systems (DDEC) and ACERTBackground in Hardness testingCertification in applied failure analysisIntermediate/Expert understanding of metallurgy
